| BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | I have most of my paper work ready to have my child support modified, now my next step is to call the case worker and set up an appointment to meet with her, but I'm a little leary because my ex has 7 garnishments on him and I'm afraid they may lower it instead of raise it, I'm only getting $100/wk for 3 kids right now and when they set my child support he was not working, so they based it on min wage, well that was 5 years ago and he now has a decent job and I'm not working right now, so what do you think the chances are of them lowering it? I have never had it modified before. |

| I think you are entitled to a cost of living adjustment. My husband has 2 children from his previous marriage and he pays $304 twice a month. Recently they sent us a letter from the Child Support Bureau stating that his ex was entitled to a cost of living adjustment and they were going to raise it to $456 twice a month. We lucked out because his ex decided she didn't want to pinch us tighter and declined the raise (needless to say I was shocked ). Anyway, back to your question, I think you should get a little more. I can't see them lowering the payments but I don't know too much about the laws in your state. Good luck to you!!

| I'm pretty sure that every few years SCU will send a letter out stating that you are entitled to a cost of living increase. Having 3 children you should be entitled to more then $100.00 per month. If he is making more money now hopefully you'll be able to request the cost of living increase. |

| My furkids Donating Member | In Mass you get 33 1/3% of their paycheck (I don't know what other states do). I was getting 200.00 a week for 1 child and my X didn't make mega bucks either.

| I've been divorced over 4 years and never got a letter. Every month with my payment notice from DSHS they tell me I'm entitled to a hearing, but because it had been so long, I just went through an attorney and had it adjusted. My pay was the same and his was a lot higher. I'm not sure about garnishments though. What does your case worker say, or perhaps you could get a free phone consult with an attorney about their opinion. ???? Good luck.

| BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | I have not made the apointment yet, was a little hesitant cause i was afraid they may lower it, but I would think that the child support would come before the garnishments. Hopefully when I talk to the case worker she will let me know. I was not even going to full with this, but I asked him to help out with school clothes and supplies this year and he was not willing to help out, instead they went on vacation, so I figured if you have so much darn money, then you can afford to pay a little more. I guess I will make the apointment tomorrow and see. Thanks for your opinions! |

| Donating YT 14K Club Member | My ex got his child support lowered last year. Grant it, it only got lowered $33 so it didn't bother me too much. He had proven that for 2 years, he made less than when we got divorced 9 years ago. Jerk...not long after he got it lowered, he quit his job...hence no money for almost a year. Still kept my daughter in all of her extra activities...but money was really tight. You need to check with a lawyer and see what they say about raising his child support. You said that he has 7 garnishments. Does that mean he has 7 children?
