| ![]() Huh.. have they never had a yorkie before? Magnus is extremely protective. Zoey's very sensitive. They can tell when my parents are coming in even at very late hours (like 2-3 am) and doesn't bark. But if they hear anything else, like a voice outside of the house, deer/fox passing our patio, etc, they bark. My parents (especially my dad) sleeps so much better b/c he knows Magnus/Zoey will alert us if something's wrong. |

| ![]() They are great watch dogs. One night one of mine lifted her head a made a soft growl. I guess I have momma ears, because I heard her. I got up and looked out the kitchen window and was looking straight at a guy breaking into our cars. He was standing right at the window. I backed away and called the police. It was scary. Since she growled so softly it didn't alert him that he was just "busted"

| ![]() Gracie Ruth is a great watch dog. Even sound asleep, under the covers she hears things and will alert us to them. Boo is a true guard dog. He doesn't bark at every strange sound like Gracie does. After all that's her job and she does it well. ![]() We had a German Shepard on the farm that also did this very thing. She'd growl at a few people and it totally freaked them out to turn around and see this huge black dog behind them. She only bit 1 of my brothers friends...the one who use to always teased her when she was a pup. ![]() Yogi...well...he's our clueless dog. He'll bark his fool head off with Gracie, but doesn't have a clue what he's barking at. In fact, he'll face G and bark at her when she gives warning. Bless his wittle heart. ![]() Could they do serious harm if someone broke in? Probably not. Would they try, I have no doubt.

| ![]() My Cali misses nothing ![]() However, she is a service dog (hearing) so she sees it as her job. She know the sounds of the neighbors cars and will "cue me" but not crazily when she hears them, but let a car that is not known to her come near and she is going to let me know about it in a persistent way. At night she sleeps right next to me and if she hears anything she cues me right away. My neighbor used to go to work at 5:00 in the morning and trying to teach her it was alright and she did not have to wake me up was one of my biggest training tasks. She is better with it now, but still move up close to my ear around 5:00 am "just because". If some one broke into the house I don't thing at 4 pounds anyone would see her as a threat though. Guess that is Smith & Wessons job. ![]()

| ![]() Blazer is a crazy good (thus terribly annoying) watch dog! Because he barks then Buddy starts barking and between the two of them we sound as though we have a house full of angry dogs! |

| ![]() Tibbe is a wonderful watch dog and doesn't just bark at just anything he hears - unless it is an unusual noise, especially during the night. If it's a car driving down the street or the house creaking, he won't bark but if he hears something unusual or out-of-the-ordinary, he goes crazy barking his head off. Sometimes he barks at something I never even heard but I can tell from his reaction, he heard or smelled something he didn't deem part of our neighborhood's usual sounds or scents and he thought it was his duty to alert the world at large! Any burglar who thought he might just be able to quietly break in here during the night would be sorely disappointed if he made ANY noise in his attempt to get in as Tibbe would hear it or smell him and go ballistic! My nextdoor neighbor lets Tibbe's best buddy, Rusty, a Corgi, out every day at varying times through the day and evening and though I hear nothing at all when she does let him out, Tibbe begins to whine and paw at me, then jumping down and going in circles and absolutely begging me to let him outside to play with Rusty along the fence! He must smell him and know he's out there because I can't fool him and ask him if he wants to see Rusty when Rusty really isn't outside and get any rise out of him. He just stares blankly at me when I'm foolin' with him! He honestly knows when Rusty is outside or not and reacts accordingly but never reacts when I'm trying to put one over on him. So, I trust his nose and his hearing, which he seems especially keyed in to after dark and particularly after bedtime, and know that he will only alert and bark if he senses something unusual or different is happening and then he's a noisy barking machine, running to the door or nearest window to whatever it is and going crazy barking until I check it out. The other night it sounded like something bumped against the front of the house and it woke me where I'd fallen asleep on the den couch and it apparently woke a sound-asleep Tibbe, who roused up and growled, looked at me still waking up and when the bump came again in another 5 seconds, he went nutso crazy, jumping off the couch and running into the living room and sniffing the crack between the door and the door jamb and having a wild, screaming, barking fit, running around the living room and den and back to that crack in the door!
