New user... love my little girl... Some question on whether she's truly full-bred? - YorkieTalk.com Forums

First, I would like to say hello to everyone in the forum. I have been reading threads here since I've had my little angel, Lilly, and just decided to join.

So far, I've had nearly all my questions answered just by reading posts here. The only concern I have with my little girl is that her hair seems to be really silky on her head, but more coarse on her body. She is also very big for being only 4 1/2 months old . She was at the vet a couple of weeks ago and is already 5.6 lbs! I'm not truly concerned if she is full bred, I also know that my concerns are common and typically indicate a mixed breed or poor breeding. I have no intentions of showing her or breeding her, I really don't even care if she is mixed. I love her the same either way. I'm really just interested in knowing if she looks typical to the breed. My assumption, (being a new yorkie mommy) is that most of you who have raised yorkie's for many years could most likely look at my Lilly and give an opinion on if she "looks" typical to the breed. I appreciate any comments and am very excited to be a new member here!

She doesn't really look purebred... super cute tho!! Almost looks a little like my Morkie, except mine has way longer hair!

She is cute. She looks like she could be purebred but she also looks like she could be mixed so Im not certain. Due to bad breeding not all yorkies have the same look

Was just hoping if she weren't full that she would still ultimately have the favorable yorkie features. Thank you all for the warm welcome!

My opinion is she looks mix but you could always get a wisdom panel DNA test and know exactly what she is. Just for your peace of mind all thou she could be pure. Yorkies can be upto 17 lbs the ones that were not breed to breed standards. Good luck with your cute baby

Again, thank you all for your kind responses. I thought I would add another pic of my little girl. I'm pretty certain at this point that I was overcharged for what I believed was a full bred, but we live and learn, right?

Doesn't change the fact that I love her with my entire being!

No, I didn't. There were many mistakes in my hunt for Lilly. I did not research anything other than the breed and special accommodations. I purchased her from someone who wasn't the breeder. I paid a re homing fee for her because the lady who had her had a little boy who was very mean to her. I drove 2 hours to pick her up and the lady seemed to be honest and trustworthy, but I soon found out she wasn't. I tried reaching her after taking Lilly to the vet to get an exact birthdate for her, and she never responded. That's when I started questioning what I had been sold. Papers were not a concern for me because I didn't realize at the time how dishonest people can be when it comes to these innocent little pups. I'm just happy I can provide her with a great home and a greater future. I feel like I saved her. So full-bred or not, she's the best pup I could ask for.

I think for the most part, her features say yes, but her size is what I'm most concerned with. When I found out the breed standard is 4-7 lbs full grown, and she's already nearly 6 lbs at less than 5 months, is what has really made me wonder. My vet and the groomer have both stated that she will just be a "bigger" one. I like the breed because they r so small. She still fits in my arm just perfectly. I'm just hoping she never gets too big for me to carry her around.

Hi and welcome. I just noticed where you live. We're neighbors. I live in Buffalo and work in Cambridge....small world. Do you by any chance go to Guernsey Veterinary Clinic? If so, I may know you. As for your baby, I'm not sure if she's mixed or not but either way she's adorable.

Hello and thank you for the warm welcome.

I've actually been taking her to The Animal Clinic. It is indeed a small world. It's really neat to get a local response. My aunt lives in Buffalo. Has for many years. We have all of our family get togethers at the church there. But thank you for the comment. She is my little princess regardless. She's such a sweetheart.
