| ![]() My puppy is 14 weeks old today! I've had him since he was just short of 8 weeks - the breeder told me he was 9 weeks old and I later found out the truth, but by then was so in love with him. Anyway, he likes to bite everything, including our hands, our toes, pull on our socks or pants when we are walking, and even sometimes nip our noses. I've tried everything but even when you scold him and tell him no, give him a chew toy, ignore him, he still comes back for more. And sometimes when you stop him, he will stop and then lunge at you. We have the bitter apple spray which helps but I have to douse my friends in it when they come and it wears off quickly. Any help greatly appreciated!! I have tons of chew toys and he will chew on them all day but still want to nip. Thanks. I love him sooooo much. He is the cutest thing. I just want this phase to stop. ![]() |

| ![]() He is still a baby. He is teething and needs to bite, if your breeder had kept him longer his momma and litter mates would have taught him not to bite. Try removing him from your presence when he bites, yelp and then remove him. I'm sure others will have better info, but this worked with Bella.

Yorkie Talker | ![]() I have the same problem with our 12 week puppy. He was 7 weeks when we got him. I found that clapping and yelling NO! fast and loud helps to get him to stop biting on things. He seems to bite at my feet when he wants attention. Sometimes he will bring his toys and set them on my feet and crew on the toy if I still don't play with him. If I take the rope and play tug of war with him a while he calms down. Somedays I feel he is just testing what he can get away with. Because one day I will tell him no once and he will stop. The next day he doesn't listen at all. Does the bitter apple spay work on wood? Because the keep off spray didn't. It just stunk up my dinning room.

| ![]() Well they should stay with there mom until 12 weeks because she teaches them about biting. What worked for us was a squirt bottle with water and when she would nip I would squirt her and say no.

| ![]() I want to just mention I read an article a while back that correcting them with loud noises can make them fearful of loud noises like thunderstorms and this is exactly what happened with my dog.

| ![]() Thanks everyone. Well he is 16 weeks now, and has learned soooo much, but still bites and nibbles on the hands. He is doing it more tenderly, but still gets excited and goes too hard. I've tried everything and what works most is giving him a chew toy, but he still prefers the hands. I also will hold him down on his side and tell him no bite and settle down. Usually he settles down and when I let go he walks away and comes back calmer, but not always. |

| ![]() No - not the alpha roll where he is belly up. I just hold him down on his side and when I say settle down he lets his body limp and relaxes and then I let him go. It's not even 30 seconds. I read that was good for getting them to settle down. Is it not? |

| ![]() In my opinion no because it seems just about the same as the alpha roll.

| ![]() I think you are correct. I just read about it after reading your post. I was going by Caesar Milan and it seems to work for my little guy but I don't want probs down the road. I'm not going to do it anymore. I hope he just grows out of the nipping. |

| ![]() I know people don't like it, but the alpha roll is what got Cookie to stop biting me hard. She'll still nibble at me when she's excited and playing, which I don't mind, but not the kind of painful bite she did for a couple of weeks when she was young.

| ![]() It does quiet him down and stop the biting. I am looking for an alternative. That's the only thing he doesn't obey is to stop biting. At 16 weeks he sits, stays, fetches, lays down, gives his paw, high fives and rolls over. He walks great on the leash too, right next to me or a step behind. The only other thing is that when he sees people he rushes to them and jumps all around their feet - gets so overly excited. And if they sit on the couch at my home, he jumps up on the couch (which is he is allowed to be on) but then jumps up at their faces. |

| ![]() My chachi never became aggressive because i used the alpha roll and doing it worked to get the message accross. I didnt do it all the time though just when i felt he needed it to stop a behavior and it worked
