| ![]() HELLO!! I'm a newbie on YT! I'm going to be getting my baby this friday, so I've been prepping for his arrival. I wanted to know if anyone knows of any good sites or youtube videos where they show you how to give your puppy haircuts. Can you guys please share how you learned or some good techniques! Thanks in advance! I also want to thank YT for being soo helpful. This forum not only helped me find my first puppy, it has been a great tool for all my "new-doggy-mommy" questions! ![]() |

well i can tell you from experience the you tube grooming videos are of no use. google yorkie grooming dvd's and order yourself one. i gave my yorkie his first haircut and it didn't turn out like i thought so i ended up shaving him and i really like it now. he looks adorable. it would have been more helpful if i had waited till i had a professional dvd to go by

| ![]() I like to give the pups just a bit of a trim every time I bathe them (weekly) this way they get used to it, always look neat, and I don't make any major mistakes. I do use a clipper once the weather turns hotter but by then they are 6months to a year old and we are used to each other. |

| ![]() The best thing you can do for your puppy as soon as you get it is to comb him at least once or twice a day if he needs it or not. You just want to get the puppy accustomed to being combed and handled. It only takes a minute. You don't have to do anything fancy. Just get the pup prepared for the day when he does really need some serious grooming. Daily combing keeps the hair from matting so you don't have to be pulling at the fur and making grooming an unpleasant experience for the dog. The videos in the grooming section of YT will give you a general idea of what you can do with clippers. I know they sell a professional grooming video on YouTube but I think it is directed more toward those who show their dogs. Many of us have learned as we go. I take my girl to the groomer every two or three months and do the trim work myself in between trips to the groomer. Hope we get to see pictures of your new pup! ![]() |

I was always told that giving a dog a bath every week will make their hair dry and brittle. What shampoo do you use? ![]()

| ![]() With a puppy you just want to hold him on your lap and run the comb through his fur. Keep him as comfortable as possible. Even with a short cut you pup needs to be used to being handled and touched on a regular basis so he will continue to be good for the groomer. I give Gracie a weekly bath but we use an all natural shampoo and conditioner. Many of the brands you see in department stores and pet stores use sulfates that do strip the skin and coat. I use Yorkie Splash and Shine but there are other products out there that are all natural as well. Yorkie Splash and Yorkie Shine | Yorkie Shampoo and Yorkie Conditioner |
