The best thing you can do for your puppy as soon as you get it is to comb him at least once or twice a day if he needs it or not. You just want to get the puppy accustomed to being combed and handled. It only takes a minute. You don't have to do anything fancy. Just get the pup prepared for the day when he does really need some serious grooming. Daily combing keeps the hair from matting so you don't have to be pulling at the fur and making grooming an unpleasant experience for the dog.

The videos in the grooming section of YT will give you a general idea of what you can do with clippers. I know they sell a professional grooming video on YouTube but I think it is directed more toward those who show their dogs. Many of us have learned as we go. I take my girl to the groomer every two or three months and do the trim work myself in between trips to the groomer. Hope we get to see pictures of your new pup!
