![]() I think Baxter needs a playmate. I am wondering what other kinds of dogs would be a good fit with a male yorkie. I like the long haired Minature Dachshund, Is this breed of dog ok with a Yorkie or will there be Issues with them over who is the dominate dog or anything like that. Looking for suggestions, what gender would be best too. Thanks !

![]() Why do you think Baxter needs a playmate? Maybe he does, but I would be cautious. Too many Yorkies like being the only dog, and they don't want to share their people. I know many people who got another dog for companionship with their other dog, and it was the wrong move. Not always, of course, but it happens often. Be careful. I really thought about getting Edie a companion, but after observing her with other dogs, I realized she probably liked being the top dog in our house. Baxter's age might have some bearing on whether this is a good idea or not. If he is very young, it could work out fine.

![]() well he is 14 weeks old and he loves to be around other dogs. Over thanksgiving weekend he got to play with my motherinlaw's 2 dogs a lot and after we got home he seemed sad that they weren't arround. that is why I am thinking about a playmate.

![]() well, you could be right! I have always heard that if you have a male, you should get a female, but I have seen so many instances where a couple of males got along, that I would not necessarily go by that. Especially if you are going to have Baxter neutered.

![]() Males do well together..best to have them neutered or they could fight and mark. I used to breed Doxie's..they did great with the little Yorkies. I would let you boy get to at least 6 months and neutered before bringing another. IT is not unusal for pups to bond more to each other then the pet owner..not always but often.

| ![]() My yorkie gets along great with my indoor cat. They are the same age. I also have 2 dachshunds. One male, one female. I have had them for 6 years. My yorkie for 9 mo. He gets along with all of them.

![]() Reeses did well at Thanksgiving with my mother-in-laws poodle, but he was on his territory....I don't know how he would act if someone came into his domain. He is pretty laid back though, so I don't think he would mind. Only you know your dogs behaviors and quirks.

![]() I have never had a problem with animals not getting along in my house. My bichon grew up with a kitten and they were fast friends. In fact, they ran around and played so much at times that had to put them outside because they were driving me nuts. I also had another four-year old dog when I brought my bichon home. He loved the other dog, but it took her a few weeks to really accept him, and then they became wonderful friends and they played together a lot also. I wouldn't wait until your puppy is older. I think he would like a new little playmate tomorrow. And, I think chances for a great friendship are even better when they grow up together from a very young age. My friend has a mini daschund. She brought him over the other day to play with my little Yorkie, and they went totally nuts and played for hours until they were both exhausted. My yorkie is a little over three months and her daschund is about 7 months old. I will say that it would be a handful to have the both of them. But "what a cute handful." And - believe me, these two little dogs would love to live together and play all the time. I have never noticed any of my animal's friendships with one another excluding me in any way. I guess I'm just one of the pack. When my little puppy was exhausted after playing with the other little puppy ---it was my lap that he wanted to take a nap in. And, my face that he licked when he first woke up. And, when I come home from work, I have two little dogs so excited to see me that they almost can't stand it. I have lost no love letting them have each other. Good luck! Carol Jean
