| ![]() I have a 3 year old yorkie that is about 8 weeks pregnant. she has been totally fine until this afternoon when she laid down and would not get up. I gave her nutrical and still nothing. she is alert, but just won't get up. it's like she can't stand up or move. how long does nutrical take effect if they get low blood sugar? has anyone else had this problem? |

| ![]() That sounds serious. I wonder if it could be a puppy pinching a nerve. |

| ![]() Though the OP was brief in her description, I could only think of pre-eclampsia. I hope she got that girl to the vet. Any problem with a near-term Yorkie is serious.

| ![]() Agree with all the advice -- an 8 week pregnant yorkie that will not move needs to go straight to the vet. No online research, no reading, no phones, get her in quickly!

| ![]() Hi everyone, thank you so much for your prayers and advice. I did take her to the vet and they only found that her calcium levels were a little low. it is hard to think that the way she was acting was caused by her calcium levels being only a LITTLE below normal. she did get calcium and is doing a little bit better. she tries to get up, but still has trouble. hopefully she will be better in the morning. thank you all again for your support and prayers. I will keep you updated on what happens tomorrow. thanks |

| ![]() Glad you got her in. Eclampsia (or pre-eclampsia in your case) can get serious quickly. How many pups are you expecting? With this happening, she is at greater risk for eclampsia once the pups are born and are nursing. She'll need to be closely monitored and you should plan on the possibility of needing to hand feed the pups. Best of luck with her.

| ![]() I should have included that eclampsia can affect her during whelping, too so you have increased risk from here on out. Here's a site with some good info on signs of complications during whelping, among other things. Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping trouble.

| ![]() so this morning she started having contractions... she will be 8 weeks this wednesday so she is pretty early. she did have one puppy and it is alive so far.. the second one died and she has atleast 3 more in her according to the ultrasound. I am so heartbroken.... if she would have lasted a few more days, they probably would be okay... please pray for the other puppies and for cinnamon... she is currently at the vet.... |
