YT Addict | ![]() Hello everyone, I have not been here in a long while and its good to be back. My little 9 pound 4 yr old Gizmo, has had scratching, and has lost a lot of torso hair around the belly area. He gets a cortasone shot for the itching and it helps, but my problem now is he has flacky dry skin, almost like dandruff. I currently use an oatmeal shampoo, he eats royal canine yorky dry food and I have begun to use coconut oil on his skin. Does anyone else know how I can grow his hair back, oe is there anything else I can do about the dry skin. We are about to go frmo Texas to Detroit Michigan for the holidays, and I just hate his hair is missing, however I am excited he is traveling with me, as apposed to hubby (who will not travel with me this year) Baby sitting...(he said he can't stand to see the sad face of gizmo when I am away...lol. Any help you guys could offer would be great. Thank you so very much and excuse my terrible spelling. Cynthia ![]()

| ![]() I am assuming your vet has done blood work to rule out any medical conditions? I have dogs with allergies and feed Castor and Pollux Ultramix because there is no wheat or corn in it. You might want to ask your vet about a prescription food. I have a foster that had lost almost all of his hair on his trunk due to pseudo cushings. We put him on Melatonin twice/day in April. He now has hair all over his body! It took about 6 weeks to really see a difference. Ask your vet if it might help your Gizmo!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() So, is the diagnosis for allergies? Is he scratching his belly hair off, or just losing the hair without scratching? Any other issues at all...medically, that you notice? I'd d/c the oatmeal shampoo asap, bc oatmeal can actually irritate the skin. This would be better, imo: ![]()

| ![]() Did you ever find out how to treat your dog's scratching? I just joined tonight because I have a 2 1/2 year old Yorkie who constantly is itching. I have taken her to the vet numerous times, she has been on a strict diet, food and treats which I bought from the vet and I give her Benadryl. The last time I was there, the vet stated she might have cushings disease and wanted to take her in back, strap her down and take blood from her jugular, just because she is itching. I just do not know what to do! I hate seeing her scratching all the time and biting at her legs. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| ![]() My little guy seems to have dry skin, too. The vet recommended a fish oil supplement and it seems to be helping. I'm not worried, because it's really dry here and a lot of people have the same problem. |
