| ![]() ok so when we got Kobe we didn't much about owning a dog let alone a yorkie. So we got him from a pet store (NOT happening again), I had all intentions on getting a female and breeding them...I'll admit for the money. But after joining this site, getting so attached to my baby, and so many other yorkies on this site. I would NEVER breed him, I've come to absolutely LOVE this breed and now all animals even more. I want to get him neutered he just turned 1 on 9 May 10, but DH was raised in a home where they left their dogs outside all the time and just fed them what ever was left over from dinner etc. He also feels that its "not right to remove his "man" parts"... although he loves Kobe more then 1. he thought he would and 2 any other pet he's owned... its an ongoing battle in my house whether to get him spayed or not. If I can show him that it's in Kobe's best interest to get this done then he will be all for it... so I need your help & I'm not interested in any negativity!) Please.....

| ![]() Thanks for your honesty! I think any new yorkie owner had your same thoughts at one point or another. I'll admit I wanted a male and female at some point just to have puppies. We live and learn right? Let me see if I can pull up some of the facts others have posted so you can show your hubbie.

| ![]() My son felt the same way about neutering his Staffordshire bull terrier. I have been on him and on hiim. Now 3 and a half years later, he realizes his dog is getting too aggressive. He finally talked to his vet about it. The vet said he doesn't like to guilt people into doing it, but honestly your dog has a better chance of living a longer healthier life by having him neutered. He toldmy son thatin many cases of dogs getting diseases they would not have gotten them had they been neutered. So my adviceto you is have him go with you to the vet next time(you know MEN-they think we know nothing sometimes) ![]() Or you can research all the health benefits and put it in the bathroom for his leisurely reading material. Good-luck! |

![]() *I wanted to add that males are more likely to run away if not neutered. That alone would sway me into keeping them safe. To the OPer~men can be weird about neutering the boys. They also can be weird about getting the "V" too. ![]() ![]()

| ![]() There are long term side effects to spaying and neutering that everyone should be aware of. It is a personal decision and not always an east one. I just feel that overall it is in the best interest of their health to keep a male intact. The following article explains all the pros and cons. For females I feel it is best to get them spayed when they get older, after their first heat. http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongT...uterInDogs.pdf Whether you own a male or a female, you have to take responsibility to assure there will be no accidental breedings. |

| ![]() Just thought I'd share that I talked DH into coming to the vet with me to discuss the pros and cons of neutering so that he can ask any questions he wants and get answers from the vet himself. After reading some the articles etc. that you guys posted here he has began to consider it. He also confessed that he is also worried about Kobe having surgery more then anything else. Wanted to say Thanks a bunch to all!

| ![]() Please tell DH/Hubby that the procedure is carefully done and the vet/techs will be monitoring Kobe the whole time. Having rescue pups they are neutered/spayed either before adoption. If he is worried about age, Zoey was 6, Zeke 1, Zack 2 and Zipp at 15(?) according to the OH rescue group. Just follow the post op instructions and your pup should be up and about in a few days. It took Zoey about a day before she was up and harassing Zeke again, sorry pal, short break ![]()

| ![]() I made Kobe's appointment to get neutered today, it's bittersweet. I'm glad that we are getting in done but I know that I will be nervous wreck when the time comes (like so many others.

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | ![]() He'll do fine with the surgery and so will you. It's hard, though. If we didn't love these babies so much we wouldn't put so much thought and worry in to doing what was best for them. |
