Poopoo sticking out of bum - Help - YorkieTalk.com Forums

This is kind of gross, but I noticed tonight before my girl went to bed that she had some poop (hard it appeared) like maybe a little less than half an inch sticking out of her butthole. It just looks like it got stuck there or something and not all it came out of her. She has no poop on her hair surrounding the area or anything but just noticeable poop hanging out of her butthole a bit. Do I just wait it out and hope it comes out the next time she has a BM. I can't bring myself to thinking about having to put gloves on and trying to pry it out or something. That would make me gag and not to mention sounds cruel to do... It didn't seem to bother her at all tonight. She didn't scoot or anything...

What is this and what should I do?

When that's happened to mine, it's always been associated with the hair in back. It gets caught and prevents the stool from coming out. I just drop her in the sink and it dissolves quickly in warm water. Then I trim the hair to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Not sure what would cause it if it's not hair, unless there's something foreign in the stool.

OK, Go get some toilet paper and just gently grab it and pull gently. It could be stuck from her swallowing human hair.

Yes, i was about to suggest the same.. get some toilet paper, pull it gently and then wash her butt under the sink using your fingers to rub on the hair so it is fully washed.. then dry the area with towel.

Well I figured it out. My poor little Zoey was constipated I believe.

I went to go check on her about 2 hours after I put her to bed and the floor was speared here and there with poop and she was laying on her blanket shaking a little.

I washed up the room and her sleeping area, and I washed her bum in the sink with warm water and loosened up what I could of the poop sticking out and what got on her and then I gave her some canned pumpkin and mineral oil. She threw up though about 15 minutes after giving her the canned pumpkin and mineral oil thought (smelled like chicken from earlier).

That's a 1st for vomitting ever for Zoey.. She's laying down sleeping now and appears to be okay, but just wanting to rest. Her bum is all cleaned up and there appears to be no poop sticking out. I hope she is better shortly and has good morning poop.

I hate seeing her like the way she was.

Awww poor sweetie.. so sorry for her.. I hope she gets better... If she was shaken up maybe her stomach could not take it so she threw up.. watch out over her (hopefully she was just shaken and not sick).

Thanks! Yeah hopefully it was just her stomach and she's not sick or anything. She's a little one so I wouldn't be surprised if her stomach couldn't take it. I'm here with her right by her side, so she's comforted and is sleeping like a baby right now.

When this stuff happens and mine have had issues like that as puppies- a warm bath bath always did the trick - and they end up feeling better they don't like it any more than we do seeing it -

when it's happened to my 2 in the past they were embarrassed - after I fixed the problem - back to their happy selves

but - if you find she's really constipated call your vet

Sometimes constipation is caused from full anals. They don't want to poop because the full glands makes it hurt to poop so they hold it in too long. The longer they hold it in the body absorbs the moisture from the stool making them constipated.

Thanks. I'll keep the warm bath in mind if it happens again. Zoey did seem embarrassed too!

I think the warm water on her butt and the canned pumpkin really helped though. She's perfectly fine today.

Interesting! I don't think her anal glands are full though. I do check daily and the area always seems to be okay. I don't feel any "balls" or "lumps" around the area. Is that what I should be looking for? How does one really check for full anals? Zoey did poop about 3 times yesterday (nice solid ones), before this happened, so I don't think it's her anals. I'll have the vet check next week and show me. Zoey has a checkup, but she is all better right now!

I do this too except that I run warm water over her hiney and it dissolves.
