Get my puppy in a week!!!

Hello,

I'm getting my Yorkshire Terrier puppy on 3rd September and i'm really nervous. I haven't had a Yorkshire Terrier puppy since i was 5 years old (14 years ago!) so i didn't do any of the important things e.g. deal with vets, pick food etc.

Just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice??

Also, should i get a collar or a harnes?

Hello and welcome to YT!! Congratulations on your future new addition! I think a harness would be best for walks, but I also have a collar for mine so I can have their tags on them at all times just in case. I know you will get some great advice from others on here!

Congrats on your new addition to your family! I'm sure the two of you will probably be inseperable cause puppies are full of love and yorkies love attention and will probably always want for you to hold him/her or be at your feet. I would also consider getting both the collar and harness for your baby. The collar is great for all of her tags and the harness is great for walks. Also, whomever you get your baby from should tell you what kind of food to feed him/her, most likely it will be the science diet, this will prevent your yorkie from getting the runs and/or a upset stomach. If they don't inform you on what kind of food to feed your yorkie, be sure to ask them. Also, make sure that you always have some NutriCal, Karo syurp, or Honey on hand to prevent low blood sugar because yorkies are prone to being hypoglycemic. Thank You both for the nice messages. I've managed to find a harness small enough to fit her now.

I also would use nothing but a harness for walks. As far as collars go......I do have them for my fur kids, but they do not wear them unless we are going out somewhere. I have seen cases where the collar can get caught/snagged on something while the puppy is playing, causing the possibility of the pup to get choked while trying to wiggle free. So though mine do not wear anything for identification while in the house, they are all micro-chipped, another great & safe means of identification.

Thanks for the advice LuckyLady! Thats what i thought with the collar as its happpend to a friends dog where she got her paw stuck in the collar. Do you know what age a dog can be microchipped?

Exactly; funny; as I typed my original message I couldn't remember what they might get caught up on, but now that you mention the paw getting stuck, I think that exact thing happened to one of mine) (luckily I was there, which was when & why mine quit wearing them. I suppose as they get older it's less likely to happen, but why take the chance?
I looked at my vet records on Halle (as they were handy since she's just had a litter..of one), and I see that she got microchipped when she was 4 months old. But check with your vet; it may depend on the size and/or health of each individual dog.........or vet preferences.

We've decided to call her Bessie (Bess) i'm starting to get really excited now! Just want to bring her home
