Hey all!

So my Mocha is now 10 months old. Just now I checked her teeth (I try to do that every week) and one large tooth is loose!! It is located on the left side of her top front teeth.

I notice she has 2 large canine on her right side, but the left side is gonna have only one if this one falls off. I wonder if it is a milk tooth but it just hasn't fallen off??

I'm kinda worrying that it's not a milk tooth. I would take a picture but I cannot send it to my laptop right now. So.. help? Thanks a lot.

Yes, it does sound like her baby fang just fell off on the one side. 1 down, 3 more to go! She should end up with only 1 big k9 on each side of the top and 1 big one on each side on the bottom for a total of 4. My baby needed to get 3 baby k9's pulled as they were firmly in place (giving her a total of 7) while the one that came off was helped along by playing a tough game of rope tug-a-war with her daddy. He kept pulling the rope upwards...

It sounds like the adult teeth are pretty much set in. If that's the case, you should really get all of the remaining baby teeth pulled before they start decaying and/or trapping bacteria, etc., causing problems resulting in the need to pull some neighbouring adult teeth to solve. My girl had to get two adult teeth pulled recently (2nd round of surgery

)because of the incompetent job and poor judgement of the first vet that did her dental work (he left a couple of baby teeth untouched). And she's just about 11 months now.

I just found this thread while doing a search!
Hiro is almost 10 months and one top K9 has been hanging on! I noticed a couple days ago it's finally loose! I can push it in, push it out, and move it away from the K9 that replaced it. Now, I mean, I probably should just leave well enough alone, but I'm so excited for it to be coming out. I didn't want him to have to have it pulled when we neutered him... but are there any other ways I can ... expedite the falling-out?

Some people suggest rope toys and tug of war type of toys, chew sticks also help, but most people have to have a few pulled while neutering. It's painless for the dog, and cost is minimal, I think for Joey it was around $5.00 a tooth.

I have chewies and rope toys and stuff sitting around the house for him.
The place I'm looking at is 5$ a tooth as well.

Wow, that's cheap....$5 per teeth extraction. My vet here charges an arm and a leg. When I brought Cassi in to be spayed, she had 7 teeth extracted and it cost $20 per teeth...so total of $140. As of now, she still retains her top two baby canines, so they will have to be removed very soon.

It depends where you are located, but that's pretty costly. The high cost of tooth extraction, is usually for anesthesia, and since they're under anyway, vets usually charge just a nominal fee. I think the highest price I've read before was $17.00 a tooth.

i feel some of your pains

my vet charges $22 per tooth and i think that is just crazy! and that is if he does it while the pups are under for their spay or neuter...i shudder to think of how much it is if you are JUST getting the teeth done!

Cookie was spayed early so her adult teeth weren't out yet when i got her spayed. My vet was gonna charge me $85 a tooth plus the anesthesia which was like $205. Luckly Cookie's only k9 baby tooth that had not fallen off fell off 2 days before I was gonna take her to have it removed. Saved myself $290.

Well last time when I brought Cassi in for semi-annualy check-up I've asked for quote for extracting the 2 upper baby canine. The cost is $450 which includes the extraction, anesthesia, and blood work.

It's the anesthesia and blood work that's the costly part of a neuter, so that's why many people combine the two, neutering and tooth extraction. Also, since there is always a risk with anethesia, and most people don't want to put their dog through this, unless absolutely necessary. We also did the microchip while he was under.

I had Cassi spayed around 6-7 months. At that time, I told them to remove all her baby teeth and vet said she did not remove the baby canines b/c the adult ones were not growing in. So at the time of spay she had 7 baby teeth extracted. Around month 8, the two bottom baby canine fell out but the top never did.

I haven't had the top baby canine extracted yet b/c Cassi may need surgery for LP. I'm taking her to Ortho specialist in May. It's kind of a balancing act to get the spay and teeth extraction done at the same time. For male dogs, it's even more difficult because you want to neuter before they start marking. Joey's vet ask to see him at six months to check on his teeth, all the permanent ones don't have to be in, but enough so that they can chew. Anyways, at 6 months he said we could go ahead and schedule surgery for the 7months. So it's sometimes helpful to keep that in mind, and perhaps take the dog in a couple of weeks before surgery, just to be sure that enough permanent teeth are in.

I can't believe you can floss the teeth that would take some real patience. I also use Petzlife, and think Bully sticks are great for teeth and gums.

I agree, it's definitely a balancing act. The only flossing I'll be doing is between the adult and baby canine that essentially grown side by side. There always seems to be food stuck between there. I don't think I'll be able to floss anywhere else. I'm hoping the Petzlife and Bully stick will help with Cassi's stinky breath. She never had stinky breath until last month when she got sick and we had to feed her boiled chicken/rice.

I had to take Tucker in yesterday to have some teeth pulled. His baby teeth in on the bottom in the very front came out fine but the top ones in the front did not. He had two rows of top front teeth. It was pretty crazy looking. They pulled them yesterday and it cost $40.00 plus $12.00 for antibiotics to give him for a week. I was a little surprised because they initially told me it was going to be $60.00 plus his meds so it was a good surprise that it was a total of $52.00 instead of $72.00.
