| ![]() Do you guys clean out their ears or anything? I know with my poodle they pluck out her ear hair but she has a completely different kind of hair than a yorkie. Do you just clean out their ears or does hair need to come out?

| ![]() I have never cleaned in Buddy's ears once. His ears have very little hair in them are are always pink. I keep the hair from blocking the ear so the air can get in there. I do know you can pluck the hair out of their ears if needed. They sell a white powder, don't remember the name, that makes it easier to grab the hair. Sounds tortureous to me but I'm told it does not hurt them. Hope that helps you. |

| ![]() There are two schools of thought on this one, old shcool is pluck everything in there because if you leave anything the bacteria can stay loist and cling to the hair and leave the ear vulnerable to infection.... BUT...now more and more vets are saying do not pluck excessively, plucking hair not ready to come out will hurt and leave the hair shaft vulnerable and open to infections... My vet is pretty up to date and suggests using your fingers, making sur the ear is nice and clean and plcuk only what comes easily, If only one ot two hairs come, so be it...if the ear canal is hairy pluck a tiny bit daily, or trim the hair with a pair of blunt tip scissors. By plucking only what hair is ready to come out it is NOT painful...grooming should NEVER EVER be painful. When I was in school we were taught to pour ear powder in the dogs ear (for better grip and drying properties) and the using a small clamp called menstats to clamo the hair and twist like crazy till the hair was all removed form the ear canal...it was SOOOO painful for the dogs...now in my own shop I have not done that once. I refuse to hurt any dog.

| ![]() They make a special powder - I got mine at petsmart and you put a little in their ears and then you can just pull the hair right out. It's not like plucking it just comes out gently and they don't even feel it. My vet told me on the last visit that I needed to tell my groomer to do a better job with her ears. ![]() |
