I subscribe to Rachel Ray magazine and she always has a recipe that she says is "pet-friendly". Any thoughts, disagreements?

Disclaimer: I'm not a yorkie mom yet. Just hoping to be one in the future.

There are lots of people on here that home cook for there dogs, and they are coming out with there own cookbook. You just need to be careful, a lot of her recipes are for larger breed dogs. Different dogs can tolerate different amounts of things, such as onion powder, garlic ect. I would probably go with the recipes on here since they are used with yorkies. Don't get me wrong I love her record her show everyday, I would just defer to the yorkie experts on this one.

I just try to keep Lucy away from human food as much as possible because she will get hooked on something very quickly and not eat her regular food. She's picky to begin with. We do give her a human treat once in a very great while (like her birthday) but that's it.

My Yorkie eats all human food but it is balanced and there are things that she can't have.

It is very healthy if done correctly.

If I fed dog food, most of her treats would still be people food.

There are just certain things that have to be avoided...

Layla eats home cooked food. Like Crystal (Ellie May) said, it has to be a balanced diet and Layla gets suppliements. She is very healthy since we swtiched from kibble over a year ago. I've heard that Rachel Ray's dog recipes are not the best and contain garlic so i probably woudln't feed them but people food in general is not bad as long as (assuming it's your dog's main source of food) it is balanced. There is nothign wrong with giving apple (peel off) or a carrot for a snack every day. My aunt feeds Canidae to her lab but every day she gets some yogurt. so you can always just give a little bit

I home cook for my dogs also. As has been mentioned, nutritionally balanced is the key. I haven't seen a thread about a cookbook by members who home cook, can you point me in that direction??

I like Rachael Ray but there is always something in her doggie recipes that I question - cornmeal or whatever.

Mine get lots of people food, but not from the table. They get apples, bananas, potatoes, rice, green beans, peas, carrots, chicken, eggs, cheese.... pieces of cookie...

(That would be my husband...) Just check the list of "forbidden" foods - I think it's a sticky post... You'll learn what their bodies can tolerate. Mine can have peanut butter but they tend to puke up yogurt. That kind of thing. You'll learn!

Mine never, ever have a problem eating their regular food - canned or kibble. Heck, Loki ate a DRY, uncooked piece of pasta noodle tonight and acted like it was the best thing ever. I think Sammy even tried to fight him for it. No, we do NOT have picky dogs in this house...
