Animal Testing by Mars While doing some research I ran across the following and I have to ask myself “Why would any organization/people that care about animals use a company that does this to animals”???…Please be warned the following 3 video’s are very graphic and will show the death of animals and the blindness of animals for cosmetic reasons or to help sell more products: Animal Testing by Mars Mars Veterinary launches Wisdom Panel Professional Clearly this family doesn’t care what happens to animals but only how much profit they can make off of them. I hope everyone thinks twice before buying any of their products. I will call them and voice my opinion - this makes me sick! You would think in this day and time any mfgr knows there are other ways to test products...and if there isn't, do we really need the product? I saw nothing on the list that really is of medical benefit? |
 Words cannot describe how I feel about it. Heartbreaking |
OMG,sorry guy's i could not watch it would make me ill,I have heard of mar's doing dna testing for cross bred dog's but did not know they do animal testing digusting. |
WHat bothers me about these kinds of ads is that they are using pictures and video's taken of other animal testing. Some of those are very old (1960's), and they are the same images used for a lot of other animal rights video's. I happen to know for a fact those beagles were not being used by MARS, but by a dog food company. i am NOT saying animal testing is good or bad, I have my opinions about it but it is a very wide spectrum of [my] opinions.. I do not believe any animal should suffer... But what I am bothered by is the misuse of pictures, media, etc by not even using pictures from the actual company doing the testing.. I hope that makes sense, I haven't slept yet. |
I can't watch the videos but I get the idea. How heartbreaking! I can tell you one thing, I'll print out their list of products and I know for sure I'll never use another Bounty paper towel in my life!!!! |
I did some checking and found out that Mars funded some medical experiments at some universities to test the healthful aspects of chocolate & some of the chemicals found in the cocoa bean. |
Mars is NOT just a candy company. They are a world wide company that owns many divisions. If you look at the list I submitted there is not one of their dog food/treat/hospitals that are of the highest quality for our pets. Mars makes dog food and it is not high quality food. Mars, Incorporated - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia From May 1, 2007, many Mars products made in the UK became unsuitable for vegetarians. The company announced that it would be using whey made with animal rennet (material from a calf's stomach lining, and a byproduct of veal), instead of using rennet made by microorganisms, in products including Mars, Twix, Snickers, Maltesers, Bounty, Minstrels and Milky Way.[20] The response from many thousands of consumers, particularly the Vegetarian Society's request for UK vegetarians to register their protests with Mars, generated a lot of press, and caused the company to abandon these plans shortly thereafter.[21] It has reportedly decided to switch to all-vegetarian sources in the near future in the UK.[22][23] In January 2008 the Metro newspaper reported that Mars had allegedly begun to incorporate animal derived rennet.[24] Mars has come under criticism by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for funding animal tests which the group alleges are inhumane, including a study regarding angiogenesis and spatial memory in which mice were force fed catechins, a candy ingredient, compelled to swim in paint, then dissected.[25] Other experiments involved life-threatening cardiac puncture of mice with inadequate anesthesia. These experiments are not required by law. PETA alleges that their only purpose is to promote increased consumption of Mars' products and that harmless tests can be done on humans. I will always applaude PETA for bringing to light inhumane treatment of any animal. While I will never endorse some of their tactics if we didn't have PETA in this world, more animals would suffer at the greed of corporations. |
Propaganda Propaganda is a form of communication aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position. As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda in its most basic sense, presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda often presents facts selectively (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented. The desired result is a change of the attitude toward the subject in the target audience to further a political agenda. “Propaganda is neutrally defined as a systematic form of purposeful persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass and direct media channels. ” — Richard Alan Nelson, A Chronology and Glossary of Propaganda in the United States |

I do not want to turn this thread away from Mars and the lack of respect they have for dogs. If you want to take your dogs to Banfield and feed them Ceasar dog food and give them a Greenie for a treat that is your right. |
Show me the thread...don't just put it in another thread...as I doubt I jumped on you for Royal Canin .. |

YES peta is propaganda (talk about animal killers) and that is to make it that nobody should own animals, including what feeds us! They do not want us to eat meat or use ANY animal products. This is always been their goal and it is very well known and publicized and admitted by the heads at peta! When did I say I take my dogs to banfield, feed the ceasar or a greenie?? LMAO..where did that come from?:rolleyes::rolleyes: |
Where is the post/thread? |
Maybe you need to look at the other side before judging me for my opinion (based on truth). You don't think the president of peta telling the public to shut these places down, or burning them down if you cannot get them "free" is not terrorism? You have been breeding for 35 years and you don’t know what tests to give to the breeding parents? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...-breeding.html Here is a thread you don’t know dogs have IBD http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...t-so-much.html You didn’t know Yorkies should be kept with their moms until 12 weeks either http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...identally.html You feed your puppies adult food – I didn’t respond on this thread http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...dult-food.html Here is your Royal Cain thread and I never posted on it…but I will admit it is interesting that you have been studying food but not what tests should be given to your breeding pair or that dogs get IBD or what age to sell dogs http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...n-yorkies.html But you certainly could go on and on about tail docking http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ocking-29.html |
Something else Mars uses is Rennet from calfs stomach. ""15 January 2008 - When Mars in May of last year announced it would use animal rennet, a chemical from the stomach lining of calves, in some of its confectionery products, the company received a large amount of protest, and a few days later reversed its decision. Daily News Alerts - We respect your privacy - FLEXNEWS in May reported that the ingredient change had prompted consumer group the Vegetarian Society to issue a statement in which it expressed its ‘extreme disappointment’. Fiona Dawson, the managing director of the Mars snack business in Britain, said at the time: "The consumer is our boss and we had lots of feedback from consumers who were unhappy about the change. It became very clear, very quickly that we had made a mistake, for which I am sorry'.' Eight months later, an investigation carried out by the Grocer magazine shows that rennet is still being used in at least three products: Twix, Milky Way and Celebrations. Sue Taylor, from the Vegetarian Society, told a UK daily that the company needs to add vegetarian-friendly labels on its chocolate bars. "It would be great if products were all correctly labelled. There simply isn't time to go to a website and look-up exactly what is in a brand, particularly for parents buying snacks for children”, said Mrs Taylor. A spokesman for Mars UK also told the daily: "Mars' biggest brands - Mars, Snickers, Galaxy and Maltesers - are suitable for vegetarians and are labelled as such in accordance with guidelines from the Food Standards Agency. Twix, Milky Way and Celebrations are not as they are made using a different recipe. At no stage have we claimed that they are suitable for vegetarians or that they would be.'' |
Thanks Breezeaway...I knew I had read part of that during my research...while I am not a vegan I will never trust a company who twists the truth as it appears Mars has done with this issue. I also believe in truth in labeling on our foods for us and for our animals. |

I agree with this, and I wish people would be against inhumane testing instead of animal testing. What wrong with finding a dog food that really does reduce the incidence of bladder stones in dogs? I mean actual proof that it does this. Mars isn't giving the dogs bladder stones, they are testing dogs that have already developed stones, and Mars is testing a variety of diets on these dogs to see if certain things lessen the probability of stones reoccurring. I applaud companies who do responsible animal testing. |

As long as it is someone else's dog .... There are many websites that you explain about animal testing and also what is done to test dog food. Many of those animals are kept in cages their entire life to see how the diet works for them. I can not believe anyone thinks it is okay for other dogs to live this way just so their dogs are feed correctly. Animal Testing, Animal Cruelty, Testing on Animals, Testing on Dogs, Lab Experiments, Dogs in Labs, Testing Here is just one part of what Iams does. Also I have seen dogs that were dead and had muscle cut out to see how the food works on a dogs . IAMS and animal testing In one experiment, 24 young dogs had their right kidneys removed and the left partly damaged to investigate how protein affects dogs with kidney failure. Eight dogs were killed to analyse the kidney tissue. Dogs which became sick were not treated because it would have undermined the test results. In another test, the stomachs of 28 cats were exposed so scientists could analyse the effects of feeding them fibre. The animals were operated on for at least two hours and then killed. The research team sterilised 24 female cats, which were then over-fed until they became obese. They were then starved on a crash diet and when they had lost at least 30 per cent of their weight their livers were examined to investigate the link between weight loss and liver disease. The company also sponsored research in which 14 husky puppies were repeatedly injected with live virus vaccines and allergy-causing proteins for the first 12 weeks of their lives. They developed permanent illnesses in the test, which was designed to see how severely allergic they could become. Twelve huskies, 12 poodles and 12 labradors were regularly given chest wounds to see if diet could affect fur regrowth. This was justified in the study on the grounds that "dogs are enjoyable to touch and look at... Dogs with coat problems are simply not handled as much." Dr Dan Cary, Director of technical communications for IAMS said that his company cared about the welfare of animals. He justified the scientific studies as being carried out to save pets from illnesses and improve physical well-being. He said: "Our mission is to enhance the health of dogs and cats. We take their welfare extremely seriously during the studies and don't enter into research lightly. All our studies have to be valid science and we have to be sure they are never repeated as it is wasteful of animal time." |
