| K9 Nose Work I just signed Jackson up for an Intro to K9 Nose Work class. I had been looking for one but originally, it was going to be a 45 minute drive and $175... I wasn't too thrilled with the driving or the price. But I just found one about 20-25 minutes away and at a cheaper price! She's a certified Nose Work trainer and I am sooo excited to have found the facility where the classes are held, they have agility, dock diving, sheep herding, etc, too. Looks sooo awesome! I just signed Jackson up for the class starting December 1st. Just gotta mail them my check.... I think it will be something fun for us in the winter. Hopefully I'll be able to take the other two classes they offer following the intro class too. And I am pumped that next summer I could get him into dock diving classes too, as well as agility and rally-o being offered here. I think we are going to be really happy with this facility -- I hope! Here's the class we are first taking.... Level 1 - Introduction to K9 Nose Work® Class Description Learn the basics of K9 Nose Work® and build you dog's drive to hunt in this class. Develop confidence and independence in your dog as he searches for food, as well as a logical progression to advance his skills and yours. Whether you choose to continue in classes or pursue competition, you'll leave this class with a new bag of tricks that will keep your dog grinning for life. And the following: Level 2 - Introduction to Odor Class Description Continue developing your dog's hunt drive and enthusiasm for K9 Nose Work®. Gain a deeper understanding of how scent travels through the environment. Learn how to transition from hunting for food to searching for a specific odor. Birch odor will be used in this class. Learn how to add exterior elements and begin vehicle searches. Level 3 - Continuing Nose Work Class Description The skills your dog learns in K9 Nose Work® are endless. This course is ongoing and incorporates higher level skills to prepare your dog for competition, but there is no requirement to work toward a goal of competition specifically. Learn more subtle aspects of the environment, strategies for extending the search area, and some great games to keep your dog challenged and having fun with his nose.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Oh good luck and it sounds like a fabulous way to spend your winter. Alaskayorkie's Eddie is involved in nose work... Maybe he has some tips.

| I ended up not doing the Dec 1st class, it did not work out with my schedule. But I am waiting to hear of my school schedule first and then will probably be signing him up for the Jan 25th class so hopefully we can do it - I am real excited to try it out!

| We teach our version of NoseWork where I teach. We have an instructor who has taken the classes to get certified in NoseWork - we call it "FindIt". The reason we aren't doing Nose Work proper is because of the crating while they wait. It's a long story. I've really wanted to sign Sadie up for it but I just can't do all of the classes. We are currently taking "Razzle Dazzle". It's like a cross between Rally and Canine Freestyle. It's pretty much obedience to music - Line Dancing for dogs. It's really a blast! I'm taking a break in January though for her to take the CGC class. She's supposed to start her Therapy training in February and having CGC or at least taking the class will help. If you do take Nose Work, please tell me how you like it. I really wanted to do it. People just don't realize how scent oriented Yorkies are. You are amazing Brit!

| Any updates on this? Our trainer recommended it for my Sir and Jaeger to do together as a bonding activity.

| Watch Jackson go crazy over this if he's one of those canines more in touch with his instincts as he sure seems to be from your posts over time. Those that aren't take a while to get into it. I'll bet he just loves this work and really puts himself into it heart and soul. It's a shame every dog can't have this class in early adulthood - everybody thinks they are wonderful for all dogs. I'll bet when your done, you'll be happy you paid the $ and made the drive. I can't wait for your posts about the classes and working sessions.

| Thats awesome, I bet Jackson would love it. I should do that with Joel, I think he has a crazy good nose, lol. When we play hide and seek someone destracts him so he cant see where the person is hiding and when you let him go he follows each room in the order you went in I can tell he's not even using his eyes, he puts his nose way up in the air until he finds the person lol |

| This is an old thread... well old-ish, 2011! hehe. We never did a nosework class due to $$$ and schedule. I rather save my money for agility classes so we are finally signed up for another one this November. I am going to attempt to do some nosework type stuff at home just for fun.
