When do I start?

My puppy is only 10 weeks but I want to start early on her training and can't wait to start! What do you all use for treats? She's little and I don't want to feed her too much

Hi again!
I would just use his puppy kibble and train during mealtimes. His tummy is so small right now that just a few treats will make him full and not eat his regular food. you don't want to give too many treats bc it's like junk food, even if it is a really good quality for example pure chicken jerky, it is not a balanced diet.

I'd start training right away. I linked you the tricks thread already, but if you have questions please let me know, I will try to help you.

Hehe I trained him last night during dinner and this morning before I went to work for 45 minutes, he seems to be catching on quickly! Do you think cheerios are ok to use?

Great news!

Many people on here use plain Cheerios. It's fine to give, just remember not too much, it'll fill up his little tummy and there won't be room for regular food.

You can always start basics now. We started Cody's training the minute we got him (12 weeks old). We started him one Sit, Down, Stay, you know the usual. We introduced him to a teeny weeny "a-frame/ramp" as well as the weaves and a makeshift tunnel.

I wouldn't start anything to into it (like jumps or entering classes) until a year of age (my kennel club also won't allow any dogs under that age to enter).

any tips of the weave poles? Uni is good at the jump bar, tunnel, pause, but she does NOT get the weave poles without a food lure.

Ha! Cody is still like that too, we can't really zoom through them but once we enter classes him might do abit better.

We used Weave Pole Guide wires, we borrow them from a friend who went to Clean Run (its a website that sells fantastic agility supplies!)

Have you tried a leash? I did this w/ Jackson the 1st time and used the leash to guide him through, and then he got it. He's still not fast but he does it on his own atleast. I wanna see Uni on vid doing this, with those supermodel legs, she'd be amazing at agility!

Spike did a few rounds of agility classes, mostly over the winter when it was too cold to go outside. He was great at the ramps, average over the hurdles, and awful at the tire jump, the tunnel, and the weave poles. We made more progress with the weave poles once I guided him through on his leash a few times. It was strange, because he was a star at obedience, but sitting or lying still is definitely not one of his strengths!
