What should be of paramount concern to you is the health of the parents and of course the puppy you are buying. If you go the the YT library you will find a great article on how to find a reputable breeder

I went off the breeder list already mentioned on Yorkshire Terrier Club of America . I ended up calling the Wolperts because they were closest to me and they happened to have a pup who is perfect for me. I think their price was reasonable... under $1,000 depending on the sex and size of the dog. But I don't know if they have other available pups right now.

But the breeder first, and then the puppy! The purchase is the easy and cheap part!

Go to the AKC website and look up conformation clubs in your area. Those clubs usually have a contact person to help you find breeders that they know of in your general area. Ask if they know anyone who knows the breeders and where you can get references. Just because someone shows does not mean you will get a healthy pup. Check them out very well. If they are not comfortable letting you see their facilities and their breeding stock then move on.
