YorkieTalk Newbie! | On Where to find a Yorkie I too looked for a very long time for a (second) Yorkie, talked to a good many backyard and puppy mill breeders and a few scammers. Almost ready to give up, decided to contact Breed Association in my State, no puppies available at this time, then used search engine for National Yorkshire Terrier organizations. BINGO! AKC and The National Yorkie Assoc responsible for overseeing the showing aspect and other activities for Yorkies both list Breeders. I found my little Male Yorkie immediately and had several good Breeders to choose from. I hope this is helpful to others that are searching for a beloved little guy or gal to love. My beloved little female is 5 yo and my little boy already owning my heart is 9 weeks. I searched for love in all the wrong places for a long time. For quality try the national groups. Good luck and good hunting. |

| Some great Breeders in Texas. You could have used YTCA.ORG for a breeder. Best of luck. |

| Very odd you found an AKC breeder who let you have the pup at 9 weeks of age, most good breeders keep the puppies with mom and littler mates until they are 12 weeks of age.

| Did you look at the pictrures? It said his first day home and he was 5 1/2 weeks old!!! No reputable Breeder would let a pup go at that age.

| Like what others said, reputable breeders won't let their pups go home at such a young age. Also, they wouldn't breed a girl under 5 lbs like what your breeder did. I'm glad your baby is not sick or anything, but the breeder you got your baby from is not a reputable breeder.

| What's the criteria for these breeders to be listed? Obviously this one should be removed....

| Hi. Glad you found a new little one. Both your pups are very cute! I would be a little careful taking the little 9 wk old one out and about until he has all of his immunizations - he is still very tiny yet and his immune system isn't the best yet. He is so cute, though. |

| You got him at 5 weeks old from a first-time breeder...I'm not sure why you are calling this breeder reputable? That's pretty extreme. It's illegal to sell a 5 week old puppy in many states. |

| I am looking for a yorkie in Illinois and the reputable breeders I have spoken to do not let their yorkies go until they are 4 months old. The breeder of our previous yorkie let us take her home when she was 12 weeks old but a few weeks prior to that let us bring her home for a weekend and always let us visit as often as we liked. It was a wonderful experience and we became good friends. I wish she was still breeding. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Response to numerous posts Thank you one and all for the comments. I also agree with them for the most part. First, I trusted that only responsible breeders could be listed under AKC Breeders. Second, there were intensive health issues with both the husband and wife who whelped the litter, cancer stage four and an accident requiring three immediate surgeries. Strong extenuating circumstances mandating the necessity for such early placement. I talked with my Vet extensively prior to agreeing to take the little one at such an early age. And no, I do not take him out and will not until the Vet assures me his inoculations are providing the necessary safety. I am also retired and was aware of the extra care, emotionally/physically/mentally Chap would require. And I was not mistaken. I have had no more than two six hour stretches of sleep in the past four weeks. Also important to this issue is that I have raised two Yorkies and would never have undertaken this situation otherwise. I also raised and loved a little three pound toy poodle for nineteen long years. That is just to say I am not a novice in an undertaking of this nature, and I know enough to rely on my Vet's advice, counsel and approval. All the concerns posted here and more were talked about at length. Many of my concerns about diet, health did not manifest. The only one which has developed is our bonding is 100%, I am his momma. With time he is becoming more secure in being any distance away from me and of course, Baby my five year old precious female is a great help. He now plays happily without my having to be in his sight. So separation anxiety has and is the only issue which concerns me. I plan to be patient and allow him to develop at his own pace in this area and am pleased with his progress. He also now naps in the daytime without being in my lap and only occasionally wants to be held at nap time. What else, oh yes, I was not aware of Yorkie Talk until after I was committed to Chap. I love and appreciate all that is available here and certainly wish I had known about it years ago. It just did not come up on my radar on any searches I have made. My sister located it. And Lastly, I did not and do not want to offend anyone. My only thought was giving information which would perhaps help others to find their little ones. I have exhausted State newspapers, too many not well bred Yorkies was all I was able to locate; I also exhausted web ads as no AKC males were available whenever I checked or when they sent photos and some were unbelievably bad in conformation, etc. etc. I spent hours every day on the computer searches off and on for a very long time. Every contact I made with the Yorkie Assoc or AKC breeders I found nothing but quality Yorkies. And normal prices, that is, not inflated as one might think. Again thanks for your caring comments, hopefully all together this information will help others who are also frustrated in their search for a precious Yorkie. Blessings to everyone. |

| Sorry okbaby, it sounds like you do know exactly what you're doing, and the puppy was let go early for a reason. I had kind of assumed you were being taken in by a disreputable breeder when I read your original post, but it does make more sense now. |
