| Rescue is overwhelmed with 2 seizures in 3 days Can you help? Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa, Iowa has rescued over 125 dogs this week. This is a small city. The vets are doing what they can but their vet bills are huge. I know at least 5 yorkies were rescued from the first site - a pet store, the so called Court Hill Pet Palace ( I posted a thread about it in General discussion the other day.) If you can offer financial assistance or help in anyway here is their contact info: mailing address is Heartland Humane Society, PO BOX 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501 phone: 641-682-1228; web: http://www.heartlandhumanesociety.org/ -- not the world's best website. Here's a bit of what happened - then I'll include some news links: Earlier this week the Court Hill Pet Palace is shut down in Ottumwa, Iowa - then yesterday, right outside Ottumwa more than 100 dogs are seized from a home. I called the Heartland Humane Society & spoke with a gal there, the gal I spoke to said they are so overwhelmed between these 2 seizures & she said she is now hearing rumblings of other spots in and around the town, that may need to be shut down. It seems that the pet store shut down is turning into a domino effect - WHAT A GREAT THING FOR ALL THESE DOGS -- BUT, it is stretching the rescue group to their limits! Here's tv news video about the so called pet store from earlier in the week: http://www.whotv.com/global/story.asp?s=7908574 Here's an updated story about what is happening with the owner: http://www.ottumwa.com/local/local_story_053003659.html Here's the story about the seizure yesterday of more than 100 dogs - not sure the breeds: http://www.ktvo.com/news/news_story.aspx?id=99485 The gal at the rescue told me that someone turned this "home" in, and that the police went there and after some talking the owner turned the dogs over They are just so concerned that this domino effect will stretch their finances even more but are anxious to help more animals. They are near capacity with animals. They are hoping that the Animal Rescue League of Iowa which is in Des Moines, can come pick up some of the dogs they rescued yesterday. If you live near them, here is what else the lady said they need: assistance with vet bills, garbage bags, bleach, newspapers, grooming tools, food

| I am just saddened to read this. I cannot help with homing but is there a place to send money to help? I just saw website link info.... The upside is these animals were rescued and will have a chance at a happy healthy life.

Heartland Humane Society, PO BOX 1149, Ottumwa, IA 52501 I told the gal there - that I belonged to an online yorkie forum - I don't think I said yorkietalk - but if you send something - it would be cool if you mentioned YT -- I told her there were so many generous people here, that maybe someone would help

| more bad news Last week when I talked to the rescue they said they were hearing more rumblings of other problems in the area..... well yesterday they rescued 80 cats from 1 home -- but soooo many were in poor condition that 59!!! were euthanized -- the hoarding is extreme! So this overwhelmed shelter now has bills for those lost cats plus the care of 21 cats I'm sure they would still appreciate any donation

YT 500 Club Member | We lived in Oskaloosa before moving back to Nebraska. How sad for all of those precious animals. I hope that the ones that are able to be saved can find good homes.

| this saddens me and sickens me to no end. How could it ever get that bad befor it is reported....... People need to report things!! So many just turn there heads Or ( Don't want to get involved) Not getting involved Is just as bad as letting those poor babies live in those conditions IMO. If you see something like this you need to report it. Thank you Yorkiesmiles for informing us of the rescues need. |

| What a great offer. To bad they didn't reply. Maybe you should call them. The day I called the lady just seemed overwhelmed. And from their website I don't get that they are really tech savvy - although you would hope they would reply to an email
