The "Yorkie" has overtaken the beloved Golden Retriever to become the second most popular purebred dog in America according to AKC registration figures. The Labrador Retriever is the most popular purebred dog in the country once again -- a spot it has held since 1991. Here's a look at Sacramento's favorite dogs as compared to the rest of the country: NATIONWIDE 2006 1. Labrador Retriever 2. Yorkshire Terrier 3. German Shepherd Dog 4. Golden Retriever 5. Beagle 6. "The Boston Terrier, Pug and Chihuahua all show up on Sacramento's top 10, yet don't appear on the national list," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. Plus we maybe in some newspapers, plus we were on news channel 5. A lot of grooming & we were all sooooooooooooo tired after, but we'd do it again. |

| I totally agree with you. That was my first concern when I heard the news. Even though we took the pictures & had a lot of fun that day. My main concern is still our babies future. I am also very worried about our little yorkie breed. Hopefully people who want yorkies will research the breed & go to rebutable breeders to purchase their babies for their lifetime homes. Hopefully people will become more educated in the breed & make the right choices.. Maybe showing people what a yorkie should look like will help & not just purchase the first one they see from where ever..I don't know. I do my best in educating people whether they purchase from myself or not. As I do not breed very often & am extremely picky on who gets my babies. I try to head them in the right direction. I do speak to people looking for a puppy on where to purchase & not to purchase their babies, not just yorkies all breeds, cause all puppies do look very cute, but I pray it turns out okay for these precious little babies. That we all love so much. I will continue to do my best in helping people finding a good quality puppy from the right people. |

| It isn't just the Yorkie breed, it's all breeds we need to be concerned about. We need to get those back yard breeders and puppy mills put out of business. They are the reasons all the dog pounds are so full. These maggots are a disgrace upon humanity. |

I agree with you 100%. But, statistics show that whenever a breed becomes popular, the rescue & shelters become very populated with that breed. It happened Labs, Goldens and Shepards. People breeding indiscriminately, everyone wanting one cause it was the breed of the times.

| I guess the kids becoming teenagers left me wanting something small to cuddle. There is a lack of reputable breeders in my area. I asked the lady I got my girl from for a pic of the mom & dad for a scrap book-she sent me a pic saying this was the dad & that the mother belonged to her friend but she'd get me a pic. When I got her she said the opposite that her friend owned the dad. I have ran into that several times but have caught on before buying, this time I didnt. It makes me wonder if her akc papers are correct. But back to the subject We already knew how popular the yorkie was, now our kids cant tell us we're out of style-as long as we're sporting our yorkie, but we'll still sport them when their fame fades |
