| need advice i am a new yorkie mom and a nervous wreck! I picked up my new baby on friday and he was very healthy and wonderful. i noticed his eyes watering very bad after the first day and now (day 4) i have noticed discharge coming out of his eye. i have read that this may be a health issue. should i be worried? Also, i have been feeding him puppy kibble mixed with a little bit of wet food. the first 4 days he seemed fine and then yesterday started getting very runny stool. i am starting to give him less wet food in hopes that that was the cause. but again, should i be worried? he is a very happy and playful puppy. i just want to do what is best for him. everytime i see something abnormal i want to rush him to the emergency room thank you in advance for any advice |

| How old is puppy? Does it have all of it's shots? Have you had it checked out by your vet since you got it? I would call your vet ASAP. It could be nothing or it could be any number of things.

| he is 10 wks old. he was checked out by the vet the day before i got him and everything was fine and perfect. he has had the first set of shots and is due next week for the 2nd round. i was hopeing it is the wet food or possibly the treats i gave him which i am stopping as well. i think i will wait a day or so in hopes that it clears up and then go straight to the vets. thank you for your response |

| I would stick to strictly dry foods. I've heard that wet foods have added preservatives that arent that good for dogs. They LOVE the wet foods, but its not as good for them.

| My yorkie is 8 weeks old and has already had her second round, to be safe just go to the vet. I just got mine this past sunday but one of the main things I was told to avoid were runny and discharging eyes. I would go to the vet asap. |

| When mine got diarhea, I changed them to bottled water. What food was he eating before? I would use that and slowly change him to something new. Also, nutrical is a vitamin in a tube, give a little each day to make sure he gets all he needs. It lasts forever. Wipe his eye gently with washrag or paper towel, do not use same one for both eyes. As long as he is acting healthy, he should be fine, but they can turn very quickly.

| yeah i read all of that too and that is why i am so nervous. i have also talked with other yorkie owners who said that is is natural for the eyes to water and that they cry for their mom till they are about 4 months old. i made an apt to see my vet tomorrow so hopefully everything will be ok. he hasent eaten his lunch yet either |

| well i took my baby to the vet today and it turns out he has a cold. it is so odd though because he has not gone outside, isn't near drafts and has been in a very healthy environment. this morning i found blood in his stool! the vet said he had a fever and gave him a penicillan shot and he did not like that one bit. it made him very sick! the vet also said that if he does not feel better in the next few days that he wants to test him for parvo! but he hasent even been around any other dogs or grass or anything. i'm wondering if the breeder gave me an unhealthy dog i am praying that he gets better |

| Lexy had bloody stools because she had roundworms! Take a stool sample to the vet and get them to check for worms.

| Hopefully it's only the cold that your dog has. Anything other than that and you may have to have a stern word with your breeder. Good luck. |

| I've had Maggie now for two months. She also went through an adjustment phase. Her appetite was the pits. The breeder even sent home food that she had been eating and some well water, that she had been drinking. Her stools were very pudding like. Stinky TOO. Her eyes watered also. I took her to the vet for her puppy exam on the very day I got her. Her health was perfect. The vet said more than likely it was adjustment stress. It should be over and done with in about 10 days to 2 weeks. He was right about that. He said to be patient, loving, and try not to do anything that would startled the baby. I called the breeder and she recommened clipping the hair at the tear duct corner of the eye to keep the hair from poking her in the eye, causing it to tear. She said to use round end scissors. I found the little scissors in the baby section at WalMart. I also clipped the anal hair, to keep the poo from sticking. I purchased a battery operated bikini clipper and it works great. I am a FIRST TIME YORKIE MAMA, and this is all a real eye opener. Maggie is now 15 weeks old and the love of my life. I hope this helped some. Let us know how your baby is doing. Oh, Maggie is only on dry food of Royal Canin 33 and Bil Jac Puppy. No more potty problems.

YT Addict | Watch those treats! My adult dogs still get runny stools if i feed them to many. Some treats are only meant for adult dogs also, be sure you read the label. Mine get two treats a day and then i peel and slice up carrots for them. They love them |

| carrots? thats good to know. i freaked out on my little brother last night for giving him a carrot. i'm going to wait until he is at least 12 wks old before i give him anymore treats. Bailey is back to normal. when we went to the vet he gave him a shot of penicillian. he got pretty sick shortly after that but soon he was back to normal, stool and all i guess he just got a little cold, probably from me taking him to work with me. but i'm sure the treats and wet food had something to do with it as well. |
