| I'm so sad...Mimi has.... I took Mimi to the vet this morning because she's been limping and we weren't sure why she was limping every once in a while. Anyway the vet told me she has medial patellar luxation on her back left leg. This is all so new to me. He said he didn't feel she needed surgery and that she might never need it. Is this hurting her? Should I consult with a ortho? I'm just devastated right now. He also told me to get her glycosamine and chondriotin and put it in her food. I know some of you out there have experienced this. Any help/suggestions will help. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | Me too...I haven't dealt with this but there is a ton of info here and I'm sorry she has LP....but if your vet feels she may not need surgery - that's a good sign - and you as her mom will know if she's actually hurting right ? Sending hugs - and I hope it never gets worse |

| I give Simon hip chips as he has LP too. He was diagnosed as a baby and the vet checks him regularly to see if it has progressed and it hasn't so no surgery yet (SImon is 3). He has good days and bad days. When he plays hard or we go for really long walks he may limp a bit at night but that is not a regular event. I hope your baby will be as lucky as Simon~ |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Cali has it and everytime she is at the vets they check her and it hasn't gotten worse. I had another yorkie years ago who had it and he tore his ligament so they regrooved his knee at the same time as the repaired the ligament. Most dogs can live normally without surgery with a mild LP. Good luck.

| I have a little poodle (3lbs) that has luxating patellas in both back legs. The vet told me to watch his weight and that as long as he was not overweight he would probably never need surgery, the cost of surgery should he need it is 2500 per knee. I worried about this for a long time, but he is six years old now and I don't worry about him anymore, he doesn't seem to have pain unless we go for too long walks, and now he walks about a half a block and I carry him for a bit and then he walks and bit further and I pick him up again, he lets me know when to pick him up, he justs sits down and doesn't move. He has good days and bad days too just as another post said, sometimes he runs and plays and you would never know he has a problem. Enjoy your baby and try not to worry, it may never happen.

| Thanks everyone...Can I say I LOVE THIS SITE! I think I am going to schedule an appt with an ortho. My vet didn't tell me the grade..I didn't know there were different grades to this. She's her normal self just when she plays hard she starts to limp. Can I also say how spoiled she is? Not that she wasn't before but her daddy is taking this out of control...lol I do everything for my babies but daddy does get up at night and take them potty if they need to go. This has always been his duty since we got them...lol well anyway he tells me last night that he doesn't let her walk to the pad...he carries her. I looked at him like OMG...lol he's too funny but then again thats his girl. Romeo's Mom - thanks for the site...I'm going to get her some chips. |
