| Coughing when excited Kahlua has done this for months, and it keeps getting more and more frequent. Sometimes (at least once a day now) when he gets over excited or really excited he coughs like 2 or three times (kinda sounds like he is coughing up a hairball). Does anyone else's yorkie do this?? Also, don't know if this is related or not, but ever since he was a puppy, some nights when he first lays down he gags once sometimes twice, but never acts like anything is wrong?? Should I be concerned or is this normal??

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Has he been checked for Kennel cough? My Pom caught if from Cali when I first brought her home and it took Maya 4 months to get over it. The other thing to check for is a collapsed trachea. Let us know when you find out what's causing this. Good luck!!

| Also it could be the tranchal collaspe ( collapsed wind pipe) If you go to your local petsmart, in the magazine section there is a magazine on Yorkshire Terriers. Look on page 110 under breathing problems. It will explain it better. If I had time I would type the artical. According to the artical, if it is to bad the vet may recommend drug therapy or surgery to place a tube down his/her airway to keep it open. Hope this helped you. |

| Most likely it is reverse sneezing a harmless condition or collapsed trachea, more serious. Here's a link to help you distinguish between the two conditions. Click the link - then, first choose, hypoglycemia on the left and then choose collapsed trachea. www.glassyorkies.homestead.com |

| Thank you for the article it helped alot. Definitely sounds like reverse sneezing not collapsed trachea. He has been checked for kennel cough and has had his vaccine so that can't be it, and it doenst sound like the symptoms of the collapsed trachea. It does kinda sound like a sneeze when he does it, we could never tell if it was a sneeze or a cough!! Thank you so much for your replies.
