Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Dry spot on ear...eczema or something else? Lex has a small dry spot on the edge of his left ear (size of a nickel). It looks like very dry skin. If you comb it the stuff gets flaky but it will also be very irritated as well and might get some small spots on it that bleed. Has anyone ever seen this. Is this some sort of doggy eczema. He doesn't have it anywhere else on his body. When I got him he had some doggy dandruff but I have pretty much gotten rid of that by using an oatmeal doggy shampoo. Could it be some sort of fungus. Last night I put a bit of triple antibiotic on it. Any thought or suggestions on this?

| If its a kinda oval/round shape it could be ringworm which is a fungal infection. Humans can also get it so check yourself out for red circles on your skin. If it is ringworm you need to go to the vets and get some medicine although t-tree oil does sometimes clear it. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Shape Doesn't have any shape in particular. I feel bad looking at it. Where can I get tree oil? Someone on another chat said it's most likely fungal and that her doggie had it and the vet told her to put gold bonds powder on it and it went away after a month...not sure yet. I guess I can see about trying either remedy.

| T-tree oil is an aromatherapy oil you can buy from chemists. You can even get t-tree shampoos and bubble bath. If it is ringworm its very contageous but not harmfull to the dog at all just a bit itchy. |

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | Itchy It doesn't bother him at all. I will start treating it with something. I will check a natural store to see if I can find some. I have heard it mentioned before.

| tea tree oil is good - I use GSE (grapefruit seed extract) it is a natural antifungal, antibiotic, antibacterial. It must be diluted, follow the health stores advice. It can be used topically or internally. It is effective against worms and many parasites, also ringworm, athletes foot and hot spots. I raise birds and it's a great homeopathic alternative with no side effects. |
