| dental care What is everyone's best regime for dental care for their yorkies? I do try to brush at least every day. I am looking for a water additive, powder to add to their food and anything you can apply directly to the teeth. I also use greenies and I have heard about raw bones but I dont give my yorkies a raw diet so I dont want them to get sick but if there is any type of bone that would help with the plaque. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I give Healthy Mouth additive at every meal (just squirt some on their meal) - it's one of the few VOHC-approved dental products, so I think it's pretty good. Has some nice research behind it, which helps. I do give RMBs (raw meaty bones) and think they are *awesome* for cleaning teeth as doggies tend to really gnaw on them heartily. From Whole Foods, I get the Bison Rib bones from the pet freezer - then I bring them back the butcher and have him cut them down to yorkie size. They are not consumable bones for my 4 dogs -- they all just gnaw off the bits of left over meat and then gnaw on them, leaving the bones intact. Some people actually give consumable bones like chicken legs or drumsticks or wings...but I prefer non-consumables for safety reasons. Other good chews are CET chews (excellent for teeth! Get them on Amazon), Honest Kitchen Beams, bully sticks, Munchy Stix (these are junky, but mine just love them!).

| ^^ all of the above. I use CET toothpaste w/ brushing, also use Tropiclean water additive & gel, Petzlife gel (not always every day or on same day) and Vetriscience sprinkled on top of his food (I do this one every day).

| I've found that the best combo for us is CET vanilla mint toothpaste used daily. We use TropiClean water addidive. I also mix a little of the Tropiclean water additive and I use it after brushing to rinse their mouths out. I use a little 1 cc syringe and just squirt a little over the teeth.
