| Help with Food! I am having trouble with Bailee eating. When we got her ( 3 weeks ago) the breeder had her on Pro Plan Puppy and Cesar's wet food (YUK!) When we got her home she really wasnt even eating the kibble/Ceasers. I started making eggs, which she likes and mixing different things in the food. I took her to the vet for the initial check and she switched me to Hill's Healthy Advantage Puppy. I did the usual slow switch over and she wont eat that either. I have tried making hamburger with brown rice to mix in, not interested. I have had the same little bowl of dry food out since I got her, she never eats it. I had her to a friends house the other day and she loved the Grain Free Natures Recipe. Vet said ok, she wont eat that either. Today I tried some baby food sweet potato and she licked it off my finger but wouldnt eat the kibble mixed with it! I am also feeding her 3 x a day as she eats so little of the dry food. Is she just a picky princess??? any suggestions helpful Nancy |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Maybe try a quality wet/canned food? But also, you might try sprinkling some Parmesan cheese on her kibble - Parm is very pungent/cheesy smelling and is enticing to a dog's nose. Dogs eat first with their nose. You could also try sprinkling some beef or chicken broth on her kibble.

| I would skip any store bought broth bc it has onion in it. Onion is toxic to dogs in any form. Have you tried moistening the kibble w/ warm water & mixing everything together? A pup needs to be eating puppy food bc it has all the vitamins & calcium needed for growth...you can also try moistening the kibble w/ goat's milk. Dogs can digest goat's milk & they love it.

| I always warm her food and do add a teaspoon of water. I am also having trouble finding "treats" I have tried Wellness Puppy, and even the less expensive ones. I also made homemade ones with peanut butter, cheerios etc and she will not eat them. The only treat she will eat is a cheese stick and scrambled eggs. |

| Scrambled egg whites are good (no salt), but not if she picks around it & leaves the kibble. Have you tried canned food? Canned food is superior to kibble bc of the moisture & protein content. If her tummy can handle it, I would try giving her different foods for her meals. For example: canned food in the am, moistened kibble w/scrambled eggs in the afternoon, canned food mixed w/moistened kibble in the pm & leave out kibble for her to nibble on anytime. I moisten the kibble w/hot water & depending on how hard or big the kibble is, let it sit for 20-30 mins, get it totally soft. Moistened kibble tends to get spoiled, so I wouldn't leave it out all day. It's easier to mix other foods when it's completely soft & she can eat everything w/out picking through it. GL!

| My little girl was the same way when I got her....the breeder had her on puppy chow and I didn't want her eating that so I switched her over to nutro and she wouldn't touch the stuff so I was cooking for her eggs, and boiled chicken...after reading on her about the poor quality of nutro I switched her over to merricks and was mixing half with merricks dry food with half wet puppy plate. I did that for about 2 weeks and now she will eat the merricks dry food alone. Also forgot to add that when I was mixing food at first I crushed up the hard food very tiny before I mixed it in with the wet. Last edited by Izzypoo; 01-22-2014 at 01:36 PM. |
