| How do I know how much i should feed my puppy? My new 3 month old puppy finally ate all the food I served him because I kept petting him while he was eating. My question is how do I know if I fed him too much or too little? |

| The amount depends on which brand of food you feed, your pup's weight and activity level. Feed a little less than the guidelines on the food bag suggest. I think many manufacturers overestimate the amount. Many people will recommend free feeding a puppy because the conventional wisdom is that a pup won't overeat. This was not true of my Max. I gave him 3 scheduled meals and 2 small snacks a day. Puppies generally need more than adult dogs because they burn a lot of fuel growing and engaging in puppy antics.

| I should add that I had to hand feed Max his entire first year. Yorkies can be funny.
