| Dry food for one small dog? How do you handle the dry food situation if you only have one small dog? I store it in a cool, dry room, away from light, in the original bag and then put in a plastic container. I also keep a cup or so out in a plastic container so I don't have to go in the bag every day. A 4-5lbs bag of food would probably last 4-5 months, but I worry about it going bad and Lola gets sick of it so I've been throwing it out after about 3 months. I wish I could buy 2 types and store them in a way where I could switch it every few weeks. I also wish they'd make smaller bags of food like they do for cats. I have a large freezer and I'd consider buying a vacuum sealer. |

| I've been looking into vaccum sealing, freezing, and both together and I'm finding really mixed information about how long it lasts. I'm finding everything from one month, a few months, a year, etc. Does anyone have any experience? |

| You are using the best methods to keep food from going bad and being dangerous. With 2 larger dogs, I think a 5 pound bag lasts 3 or more weeks for us. Still, I can tell the food isn't as fresh and tasty when we get to the end. The boys are so happy when we open a new bag. I tried the freezing when Max was a pup and he didn't like that.

I have to rotate her treats and wet food fairly often because she'll get sick of it and flat out refuse to eat it. I swear she takes after my mother. Quote:
Lola is 5lbs and I give her about 2oz of wet food a day, so a bag of dry lasts 4+ months. I think I'm going to find a vacuum sealer from a store with a really good return policy and try it along with vacuum sealing + freezing it. | ||

| I keep Ian's kibble in the refrigerator, sealed in the original bag.

| Pet Food Storage Recommendations: What to Do, What NOT to Do! Learn How to Choose the Best Dog Food Containers. What kind of sealer do you have? My brother has the one from costco, it's white...wondering if that'll work?

| They say the best way is just use the bag it came in to store. If its a crappy bag and doesn't reseal maybe something else. I froze the food before but it adds moisuture ime. I just get a 4# bag of Fromms. It seals fine. But I put a week or two work of food in a glass container for convenience. But I mix his kibble with homemade foods. I giving him kibble as treats. But Mokie eats 4# in 4 weeks and other foods. Seems like alot compared to others?? He's a big 6#10 oz. Not fat at all. Pitbull Yorkie that gets alot of exercise. |
