| My large yorkie is changing colors at 3yo I have a couple of questions. First, I have a purebred yorkie who is 14.4 pounds (not overweight, very solid and tall). You can see how big she is in the photo below if I have attached it right. Her parents were 6 and 5lbs each! A recessive gene perhaps? When we got her she was the one pup in the litter who had long legs. The second things is nowat the age of 3 she is actually going from silver to a truer blue color, more like slate. Any idea why? She has major roots that are shades darker. The only thing I can think of is I switched her to Fresh Pet food a few months ago but not sure that would cause an actual color change! 2013-07-02 13.34.00 (560x420).jpg |

| I agree, this is completely normal for a Yorkie. Enjoy the changes and the suspense of what's going to happen next! |

| Your girl is precious. It is typical for yorkies to change colors as they get older, females especially. I think it has something to do with their hormones. It is possible that the dog food could effect it too because I have talked to some people that add certain supplements to their dogs diet to make the coat darker. I just don't know if that really works or not.

| She is a very similar coloring to Jackson... he changes quite a bit too. When he gets shaved down, he's pretty darker, more of a blue color. But when it grows out to your girls length, it's her same color, very silver/white ish. He will be 5 in October but it seems to be fairly consistent now (darker when shaved, lighter once grown out). Although I think in the summer it sometimes lightens up some.

| She is adorable! and I have a larger Yorkie myself, She stays between 7-9lbs and is taller. Shes changed colors several times, from blonde to black, and now Shes getting some silvery colors. Its normal and I've heard they will do this until they are 4 or 5 years old sometimes. |
