| How long should I wait after rabies shot... Emy is scheduled to get her first rabies shot on the 28th of this month. She just turned 6 months, how long should I wait after this shot to schedule her spaying? I'm so nervous about it, she's never been handled by anyone but me since I got her in June. I'm afraid she will lurch or jump when someone at vets has ahold of her and fall on floor....she's very hyper....I know just how to hold her so if she were to lurch, I would still have her....but no-one will treat my baby like I do....I'm so scared to leave her...I know its only for an afternoon, but still...does anyone know how long the surgery is and recovery time is? I'm going to schedule it out as far as I can in October. I don't want to go through a heat though.... |

| I would wait 3 weeks after rabies to have spay. They usually have you bring them in the morning and they keep them untill 4 or so. Are you having pre surgey bloodwork done? It can tell them if her organs are ok to handle aneshethia. Also make sure to get pain meds

| yes, I specifically requested bloodwork to be done. I wanted them to use the glue I've read about on here, but the vet said they don't use it they want to make sure it stays closed, my brother has a Bischon Frise, and he's had her over 10 years, and he said they used the glue on her at that time, he said he had no problems with it....so..oh well..... |

| I definitely think it's a good idea to wait a couple weeks until spaying her. I'm glad to hear that you are getting pre-op bloodwork done, it is SO important.
