Here we go again! This morning, Latte got up and immediately stated scooting and twirling on the grass. She has been doing this AGAIN off and on all morning. She hasn't pooped yet, but if this itching is food allergies, the only thing I can conclude is that she is allergic to tilapia, salmon...or sweet potatoes...or duck...which is all I've been feeding her for a week. I'll have to call Dr. Dan tomorrow and ask him what to to. I have to keep her from scooting, because that's what led to the infection and the $400 vet bill. The other times she scooted earlier in the week it was very brief, but to day she's as miserable as ever! Since she was eating fish for years, I fear this may be the culprit. I am not, as suggested in all he articles I've read, giving her a "novel" food source. Does this make sense?

Some dogs are indeed allergic to fish. I feel for you. Hope you can get some answers. Have you taken her to a specialist yet?

Alas, no. There is no dermo specialist in our area. I know food allergies are the culprit. I think the tilapia may be the problem since she's eaten it for years, she may have developed an allergy to it. I have read some articles that have helped me understand and one followed up with this: Don’t Give Up Dealing with a dog with food allergies can be challenging and disheartening. Proper diagnosis of food allergies can make it easier and understanding why food allergies start can help us prevent future allergies from starting. On a personal note, my Labrador has had food allergies all his 12.5 years. It has been a long road and often a difficult one. It is so much easier to find novel protein sources now than it was 12 years ago. If you have a dog with allergies, take heart, it will get better. I need to know more to ask better questions when I call the vet. When he suggested fish and sweet potato, I should've said, "I thought I was supposed to do a novel protein? She's been eating fish."

Just talked to the vet tech Ok! Now we're getting somewhere! The gal at the vet's office suggested that it's time to use a commercial hypoallergenic food with one carb and one protein. She said that a true food trial must last about 12 weeks, because it takes that long for the allergenic substance to get out of their system. So, I will be off to the vet's office to take to them and get her some food. I was assured that if she won't eat it, I can return it and try a different one.
