| Help me find a new chew for Uni My criteria: No bully sticks, every single brand I've tried stinks like poop big time. No made in China or other 3rd world country. Preferably made in USA. Low in fat. Lasts a long time, ie at least one hour. My newest criteria was that it not be from Merrick, as you all have told me their QC is so inconsistent. Before now, Merrick was the only brand that carried chews that fit all my criteria, being the Wishbones, Flossies, and Texas Toothpicks. Now the Flossies cost 2x as much as before and are 2x thinner, the TT last 1/4 of the time as before, and the Wishbones are oilier and oilier. What to do? I bought a bag of peanut butter chews from the feed store yesterday. Looked ok, made in USA, low fat, etc, but one chew lasts her all of 10 mins. I don't want something that is a treat or food product type. I want something that will keep her interest for at least an hour. Himalayan chews are good, but she likes to toss them around, and once they break, she loses interest. Tried deer antlers, the Antlerz brand. No go. Plus they are expensive! Nylabone she only likes the flavored ones but again, consumes them too quickly. There's nothing left! Help!

| I use a sml Kong with a ziggie stuck in the big hole. I put it in far enough that she cannt get to it very well,,,really keeps her busy. I use a chew, yes rawhide, stuck in the other hole, its a tight fit too. I use the chew to push the ziggie up,just a tiny bit at a time. When she gets bored with the ziggie, she chews on the chew, then back again. She cannt choke on the chew because it is stuck in the Kong. I still check it for length and if she manages to make it unravel,it goes in the trash and I get a new one. This has kept her busy for atleast an hour. I dont like bully stick,my vet warned me not to get something that was REALLY hard because it could eventually break her teeth. Oh ya and I have to be able to pronounce what its made of,so that leaves out several synthetics. None of my dogs have ever liked nylabones. So for now this is what is working for us. I figure that rawhide is safer than the fabric scraps in my sewing trashcan or the straight pens that she may find (there are 3 people that sew in my house and although we pick up and even crawl on the floor looking for them, she has found one). She can only chew on the other dogs for so long before they begin to get annoyed. |

| That's interesting your vet told you that. Bully sticks are more digestable than rawhides and are softer than raw hides. I would not give raw hides bc they can cause an intestinal blockage. What is a ziggie? How do you get them to stick in the hole without coming out? Is it that tight of a fit?

| I like the 'Get Naked' treats (the name of them alone cracks me up! ) LOL. They are low in fat however they don't last Jax long at all. Maybe all of 3 minutes, haha! So I guess they wouldn't work. Also, Nylabone has some edible chews that are pretty low in fat too and seem like they'd last longer but we have not tried them yet. I dunno which ones you tried. Jackson never used to like Kongs but he got hooked on them after he got sick and it was all he could chew. So now almost every day he gets a Kong filled with low-fat wet food and some kibble stuffed in there, I stick it in the freezer for a few hours, and then give it to him. Keeps him busy for a while.

| Have you tried bestbullysticks.com and there odor free ones? The honestly do not stink at all and my family calls me the nose because I have a really good sniffer. I have a hard time find things Callie cant eat pretty quickly too but I ordered some of the braided bull sticks from bestbullysticks.com and it lasts for days vs one day with the regular bully stick.

| They don't smell. I hate the ones that end up smelling like a barnyard. If you want PM me your address and I will send you a couple because I buy the big bags and you can see or is that smell if you like them.

| Nope, no mess on him anywhere. His mouth stays cleaner eating the Kong over eating his regular food mixed with wet in the bowl. lol. And yup I have never had an issue with the odor free sticks from bestbullysticks.com -- I HATE the ones that smell terrible and these, I never had an issue with at all, even once they start chewing.

What's a gullet? I heard the tracheas are good but don't last too long since they are so thin.

I think that's putting it lightly. Kaji tried those once, loved it, and never again did I buy any. Can you believe he doesn't like those chews? Back when I was employed, I would buy him wishbones and keep them handy because a certain someone bought him one and he was hooked. After a day, he didn't want anything to do with them, not even a fresh one. He's so weird. By the way, wishbones smelled bad too!!!
