| Benedryl or Zyrtec Okay we are going to try to treat for allergies and Zoe has a vet appointment for Monday! So... did you guys have better luck with benedryl or zyrtec? I know the benedryl is 1mg per/lb every 8 hrs. I am not sure about zyrtec. I am just nervous about benedryl...I don't want to completely dose her up! Thoughts??? |

| I've used benedryl in the past for Yorkies and our ACD when she was bit by a copperhead snake (always with vet approval). The Yorkie did fine but the ACD was pretty "loopy" acting. You should get the dosages from your vet before using to make sure they are ok since Yorkies are small. Teresa |

| Benedryl doesn't help Cooper's seasonal allergies and it makes him slightly hyper. He takes Zyrtec every night before bed and it seems to help him.

| Ringo takes a regular adult Zyrtek - keep in mind that he is a sturdy, 15 lb Westie. My pharmacist cousin thinks that is a lot - even for him.

| Pebbles is 12lbs, I wouldn't want to give a whole one. Can they be divided in two easily??

| It says temporarily unavailable but it doesn't mean it's recalled or anything is wrong with it. Cooper has 1/2 an adult tab which is 5mg. He's 11 pounds. You could always get the tablets and cut them up. Definitely check with your vet about dosage info.

| My Lizzie who is 11 1/2 pounds takes 1/2 adult Zyrtec daily. I give it to her at night before bed.

| have not read up on antihistamines & effect on dogs, but from people persepective zyrtec usually is non drowsy, easier to take on daily basis for allergies, benedryl is great but usually knocks me out, i take it for sleep. im sure your vet knows best, good luck |

| Thanks to all of you for the advice/info... Pebbles doesn't need medicine all the time, just during certain times of the year. Now is one of those times, licking her little paws I will try the adult product. She's going to the vet Friday for a dental. I will ask about correct dosage for her size, etc. Just like the Benedryl I used to give her...here's what I found from Zrytec's website, they did a voluntary recall on children's medicine, check out these links... ndc_finder and Zyrtec Recall Information, News and Press Releases ? ZYRTEC®
