| Picky Chan! & Natural Balance Meat Roll Baby Chan is super picky! But I know that I am not alone! There are lots of other picky pups out there! So I need help : ) I've been feeding my girl boiled chicken and carrots since the second day I got her. I did this because she wasnt eating due to sadness anxiety etc. She felt so small and thin so I kept going with the chicken because she gobbles it down!!! It's been a month and I am still searching for a kibble she will eat! A friend told me about Natural BaLance Meatroll and she likes it! Now she gets a scoop of chicken and a few slices of meatroll 3 times a day. She weighs about 2.5 pounds. I want her to get bigger! And she eats these meals with gusto! Just wish she would go for the kibble. I always leave some out! Does this diet sound healthy? Do I need to stop with the boiled chicken? Anyone know the amount of meatroll she should have per day? Thanks so much! |

Moving right along. You can use the dog food rolls as full feed according to the NB website, but I personally like the ingredients list for their kibble more, but that's just my preference. I feed NB Limited Ingredient Diet Potato & Duck Small Breed Bites to Rylie. She likes it a lot and does really well. You need to be careful about cooking for your dog. Feeding your dog cooked meals long term requires knowledge of canine nutrition in order to keep their diet balanced and healthy for them. You are much better off switching to some kind of dog food and only enticing with certain things. Boiled chicken doesn't hurt them, but it doesn't make a balanced diet from what I've gathered. Have you tried pouring the broth from when you boil the chicken over the kibble? I've heard that can entice them to eat. You can also try mixing a little wet food in (just enough to coat the kibble a little bit) to entice them to eat. Note: If you leave the kibble out and do NOT give too many treats or other food things they WILL eat the kibble. Dogs won't starve themselves and neither will cats. My cat Suki refused to eat her food for awhile. She didn't like the duck and green pea formula, but it used to be the one LID NB made for cats that came in a large bag. We just left her bowl out and didn't give her anything else until she ate it. She did eventually start eating it every day when she realized she wasn't getting anything else . We switched her to the salmon LID once they came out with it in a large bag and she LOVED that. HOWEVER, THERE MAY BE DANGER IN THIS WITH SUCH A LITTLE ONE BECAUSE OF HYPOGLYCEMIA ISSUES (Suki weighed 8lbs at the time). I would find another opinion on this method for such a small baby... I have no experience with that. What kibble are you currently feeding? There are plenty of other tips on picky eaters on YT. Yorkies seem to be notorious for it If you look over the Health & Diet forum I'm sure you'll find plenty of tips! I hope this helps some or someone else will chime in for you! Until then just try reading up on the forum. Last edited by Furbaby Friend; 01-11-2011 at 12:00 PM.

| Yes I've been gathering lots of info in this forum! Thank god for it! Yes it's the dog food roll not the treat roll. I figured chicken and carrots was not good enough. Not to mention it's sort of a pain cooking it up! I don't even cook meat for myself! Hah! Now that Baby Chan is eating the meat roll I've been mixing it in with the chicken and slowly adding less chicken. Within a week she will no longer be eating chicken. I'm happy that at least she is now eating some kind of dog food that is good for her! As far as kibble goes, I have science diet. She will sometimes eat a few out of my hand but she won't go to the bowl and munch. I've got lots of samples though! Canidae, innova, natural balance ( but I don't have the flavor you have), merrick and Evo. Her size is the exact reason I have not been able to give her nothing but kibble. I do think she would eventually eat it but how long would she go hungry and as you said I would not want her going hypoglycemic! I'm going to see if I can get a sample of the NB you use. It's worth a try! Also I will try making the kibble seem tummies with broth! Hope it works!! I tried callin NB but I can't get through! |

I do not like the ingredients in science diet, but if it is all she would eat it is better than nothing (granted it doesn't seem she is lol). I'd go with the NB and see if she eats it, especially since she likes the roll. Like I said you can always try mixing/coating the kibble with the stuff she likes (I said wet food, but not sure if the meat roll would work because I don't know the consistency of it). If you absolutely can't get a sample, you can get a smaller bag of the NB small breed bites from Petco and I believe if your dog doesn't like it you can return it. Try looking up their return policy or asking about it if there is one near you! Keep us posted!

| Thanks so much for your help! I am going to email NB now and ask for the kind you use. Keeping my fingers crossed. Yea I've read a few posts about SD being not so great so I'm definitely not opposed to changing to a new brand. And if I can't get the samples I will look into Petcos return policy so I can grab a little bag and return it if she doesn't eat it! Gosh I really gotta stop with the chicken everyday! I mean who would wanna eat kibble when they could have warm chicken and carrots?? Haha! I will let you know how it goes! Thanks again!!! |

| So I heard back from NB today and they are sending me the flavor you suggested along with other samples. Kinda bummed because they informed me that the dog food roll can not be used as a full feed for puppies. Only for adult dogs! So now I am desperate to get my baby eating kibble! She's missing out on so many of the nutrients she needs! The roll can be only be added to her kibble! That wasn't very clear on the website! It seemed like it was ok. Let you know what happens next! : ) the search continues... And it doesn't help that Baby Chan seems sad that she no longer gets all the chicken. She didn't even eat much at all today! Geeeez! |

Please do let me know! LOL well you'd be sad too if you were her, but you don't want her getting used to that. It should be a treat only. Look on YT for foods you can mix into her kibble to entice her to eat it if she doesn't seem to like it much. Keep me posted!
