Senior Yorkie Talker | Just found out my puppy has whip worm Brooklynn went to the vet yesterday to get her two shots and get the results from her fecal test. Well they stated that she had whip worm ( the fecal test was given one day after i got the puppy from the breeder). The vet gave me the medication and stated that its not that bad at all (cause im a scared new mommy lol). Now Brooklynn ate the meds yesterday in her food without a problem but today Ms. Kouture is acting like she is on a HUNGER STRIKE. Should i switch to soft food just to make sure she eats all the meds (meds is powder form)or should i just starve her out a little to show her who is the Alpha Dog?

i don't really believe in most Alpha dog practices at all. if you watch Victoria Stillwell she is a kindness/rewards trainer not into the alpha like Cesar Milan. i personally at the age of a young puppy would not starve her at all. she needs to be eating. sprinkle the meds over some soft food or wet down her dry food to soften it a bit. basically get anything you can down her with the meds. i'm assuming you got drontal to sprinkle on food or panacur?? worms are very common in baby pups, they get them from their mother and some breeders don't always deworm them enough or at all. it's no worries really just make sure she is getting the meds down and defin. don't starve a new puppy. the only time you ever withhold food is when they are stable enough and old enough to go a day without eating or when they have an upset stomach and you have to rest their stomach for several hours. this could be find at like about 1 year or so, but new puppies need to eat several times a day and get all the nutrition they can to grow and be well. i'd try another food if you have to, but i'd mix it in with her regular food at first so it's not a fast switch. hard switching can cause diarrhea and she doesn't need that on top of fighting those parasites. hope that helps ya out. Senior Yorkie Talker | Thanx Rachael imma try the water trick on the food because my girl is a great eater so i think her tasting the powder is making her not want to eat. Im going to wet the food at the next feed and you are right she has PANACUR to take. Also another question at what age did your yorkies get their rabies shot because Brooklynn has just got her but i thought they get the shot at 5 to 6 months? I ask the vet and she stated that Brooklynn is old enough.

| You want to keep your puppy eating no matter what. Soft food is fine and if she eats it that is wonderful! Wormer is a poison. It can upset their tummies and you want them to eat. You don't want a hypoglycemic pup. Congrats on your new baby!

| You might want to mix the powder in with a tablespoon of yogurt and give her that as a treat. Of course finding a food she likes is always a plus, sometimes they are just not hungry at that time and I would want to be sure she gets those meds in her as easily and quickly as you can. |

Senior Yorkie Talker | Brooklynn was Out smarted! I mix just a little wet food with her dry food and she is gobbling up the meds like a hungry hippo. I still stuck with chicken soup for the dog i just mixed a tiny bit of wet with the dry. Thanx again YT community for all yall help. They should have had a website like this when my daughter LEILAH was BORN!
