| RAW diet and vomiting I started Max on the BARF diet about 2 months ago. At first he was doing really well. After about a month, I noticed he started vomiting about 30 min to 1 hr after eating. He was seen by the vet and they recommended that I keep him on the dry for 2 weeks. We've since gone back to the raw, and he started vomiting again. I've been thawing and handling appropriately. Anyone have this problem with the BARF diet?

| We've never had a problem with vomiting after feeding. Sometimes we get bile vomits before. What are you feeding him?

| What specifically is in the BARF patties? Do you make them yourself or buy them pre-made?

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Maybe that's why they call it BARF? Sorry, I couldn't resist. If he's only vomiting after the BARF food, I would find another brand. Some raw food advocaes will say he's purging the kibble from the previous feeding, but that's not the way the body works. If he's vomiting after both meals, I would want to do another vet check.

| BARF...I know LOL! but it stands for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. Its pre-made and found in the freezer at my pet store. Guess I'd have to find something else. I like to give him variety besides just kibble. I tried canned Evangers but his poop and breath smelled so bad. Any suggestions?

| I feed a prey model raw diet. It's different from a barf diet as barf includes things like veggies. I have had no problems with vomiting with any of my 3 but all dogs are different. Maybe you should just go prey model and see if her tolererates that better? |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Have you seen this thread? http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-products.html, I know it's a different brand, but the product can cause vomiting.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Not to be alarmist...but vomiting always really concerns me. Some poo issues during any diet transition is not uncommon. But vomiting is the body's way of getting rid of something NOW! I mean, this is a major reaction/response of the body, imo - and really should be listened to. Just to give some comparison...Wylie is 5, and I can probably count on 2 hands (if that) the number of times he's vomited in 5 years. For Marcel (3 yrs old), he's vomited maybe 3-5 times in 3 years? They eat raw (Primal right now). Granted, some dogs have IBS (or something else), which can result in increased vomiting (and poo issues) - but anytime you change diets and there is vomiting, I'd stop and swap if it happens...I dunno...once, twice?
