Yorkie Yakker | Localized Mange on my Lulu My Lulu has suffered from localized mange around her eyes since she was 4 months old. She is 2 yrs. now. Not once has she had hair around her eyes. The vet all he gives me is an ointment to put inside her eye and then goodwinol around the area...It has done nothing! This evening her left eye is swollen and all he can tell me is to bring her in Saturday!...I feel he knows nothing and it's time to change. Have any of your yorkies ever experienced localized mange around the eyes? What other solution is there besides the goodwinol? It's so difficult to to rub the ointment and I'm scared to get it into her eyes. |

| So sorry your little Lulu is suffering from this. I am in no way a health expert, so have no advice. I can relate, however, in that Piccolo lost all the fur and even her eyelashes around her eyes with a different problem. (Has grown back now, though) I also agree that going to a Vet Dermatologist can be extremely helpful.

| I hope I can be of some help here. I have some experience with mange. My puppy had cheyletiellosis mange (walking dandruff) when she was 3 months old. It's very contagious and my vet was infuriated that my puppy had it. My vet recommended Revolution and it worked. The mange cleared up. You might want to look into that. It's for heartworms and flea control but it will also clear up certain types of mange. It completely knocked out the mange on my little girl. Please check it out. |

| Oh I called them, as soon as I found out. He had claimed his vet had just checked the puppies and did not mention anything about mange. He was very concerned and said he would have to get a second opinion right away. |

| sounds like demodex mange if on face and has been going on for a long time - demodex is a tough one to kill as it comes from momma dog and is an immune suppressed related mange. Many find success using promeris but our derm said it can upset their tummies. The only other thing is ivermectin which is very toxic and off label - you can see a dermatologist to get a better diagnosis but sounds like demodex to me - my friends dog has had it for years on the back and it is a stinky moist spot - you have to build immune system to get rid of it and it is tough Red, Puppy, & Follicular Mange (Demodectic, Demodex) in Dogs Demodectic Mange & the Immune System in Dogs |

| demodex is not contagious but sarcoptic mange is (scabies) to humans so if it was scabies you would have it as my grandma's dog had it and she got it too |

| my friends dog got ivermectin toxicity so this drug is never to be mixed with ketoconazole so NEVER DO THAT. Her dog is now on a low dose of interceptor daily due to them trying to avoid ivermectin since her dog went into a coma due to those two drugs being mixed. I would try the promeris first then go to ivermectin - my friend sees a dermatologist as well but she went to another derm who gave her those combo drugs that almost killed her yorkie so make sure NEVER EVER MIX those two drugs so if they recommed it RUN |
