| Red spot on head Mayme has been pawing at this spot on her head and I noticed this morning that's it really red. It's about the size of the tip of your pinky finger. She had a reaction to her rabies shot on Sunday and I hadn't noticed any more red skin from the reaction until today when I found that spot on her head right above her right eye today. Before her rabies shot I had noticed an extremely red spot on the center of the back of her neck which since giving her benedryl for the past 5 days after the reaction has basically gone away. She has been biting at her rear end alot and scratching her neck/licking paws ALOT lately. All of which the benedryl cleared up. I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this or know what it might be. I don't believe it's from the reaction to rabies because I had noticed the spot on the back of her neck before she had the shot. So, I'm thinking the one on her head is related. I'm in the process of switching vets, so she doesn't have an appointment until next Friday. I panic any time something is out of the norm with her.....so it anyone has any ideas i'd greatly appreciate them. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hmmm...okay...so, when she has these "red spots", she also has bad itchies -AND- benadryl RELIEVES these itchies? IF yes to all of that...then she is likely having an allergic reaction to something, but who knows what. Food allergies account for only about 10-15%, rest are enviro/seasonal. Can you describe these red spots more? Do they go away fast/slow? Is there hair loss at the spots? Is she licking/chewing all four paws? At certain times of day or? What are you feeding and have you switched her diet at all?

The benedryl was prescribed after her reaction to a rabies shot last Sunday. The itchies stopped for 5 days, but I did notice that red spot appear. The spot went away that same day. It kind of looked like red scaley skin. Yesterday her head between from the middle of her head down to her eyebrows is not blood red but on the darker side of pink. I gave her more benedryl before bed, but it's still pretty pink today. I wonder if it's still from the rabies shot or if it's allergies. I have noticed these red spots before on the back of her neck where her collar is before she had the rabies shot. I always thought it was red because she had scratched it. Now I'm thinking it's something else. When I took her to the emergency vet for her reaction, they told me that they thought she is too young for allergies. She's 2 and 2 months. | |
