| about surgery of Luxating Patella My doggie is suffering from the Luxating Patella at the moment. but he is not even 2 year old. I am wondering when would be a better time for the surgery. Should I wait until he's fully grown up or the sooner the better? |

| Sooner the better, it is only going to get worse. Only get surgery after you have consulted your vet and a orthopedic specialist. Hugs, we are going through all of it right now....xoxoxo -Vivian

| yes, some vets do recommend an immediate surgery. Also, we have been told my doggie would be needed me 24 hours/7days for 6 weeks after surgery. I fully understand and prepare an intensive care for my doggie, but 6 weeks is really a challenge. Is that the same 6 weeks your vet tells you about post-surgery care? |

| I'm sorry your baby has LP. My Jamie has it too and will probably need surgery. The recovery is one of the think I'm most worried about with surgery. It would be nearly impossible for me to take 6 weeks off of work. Has anyone ever had a furbaby recovering from LP surgery while they are working a full time job?

As they progress in their recuperation, you can probably leave them a little longer but I would for sure have some check in on them several times a day. My surgeon told us that we could have him in a 3 x 3 area so it's not as though they will be in a small crate the whole six weeks. I would definitely listen to my surgeons instructions for recovery. While it is a long time, and even longer with them in pain and anxious to move around, 6 weeks is nothing compared to a life without pain for them. It is long and stressful but oh so very much worth it to see your little run pain free. Feel free to pm with any questions.

| Our SNickers is having surgery next week and my husband and I both have full time jobs. We scheduled the surgery on a Wed so then my husband will take Thurs/Fri off and then we have the weekend. We are arranging for my dad to watch him thoughout the day until we get home. The vet said we can leave him alone for an hour or 2 as he will be resting. Our vet also said we do not need to crate him and that his getting up and moving around is good. Good Luck xoxox- Viv

A diagnosis of LP does not mean that a pup must have surgery! Many have LP and never have surgery. It all depends upon the degree and how much of a problem it is.
