| Lactulose okay? Joey recovered from liver shunt surgery last March and has been on daily doses of lactulose. Last month, he developed pancreatitis and the vet took him off the LD diet because it is too high in fat. Now he needs low fat and low protein food which has been a challenge. He detests the Purina HV. He really likes NB Sweet Potato and chicken and if his bloodwork stays normal, I think he will be okay on that. My vet took him off of the lactulose when the pancreatitis was diagnosed. This is making me a bit nervous as his poops have gotten very hard. Does anyone know if lactulose is okay for a dog in Joey's situation?

| Just wnated to let you know I see yoru post and have no idea. I mean, I can only guess it is safe isnce Ellie has liver issues and I asked to try lactulose. Her vet knew there was a history of pancreatitis and prescribed it for me anyway. I never ended up filling it though. This was her regular vet though, not an internist. I always have questions about if things are okay for pancreatitis and liver compromised patients and I think it depends on the individual case. I can't find anything about it on Google. Did the vet say it would irritate his pancreas?
