| Coughing Since this morning, Layla has been coughing quite a bit. There shouldn't be anything she has eaten that she shouldn't have. When we first got up, she seemed to be reverse sneezing. During the day, it wasn't happening so often, but tonight it's happening about every 10-15 minutes. She will hack a few times, and then seem to gag for a couple of seconds. Twice now there has been a white sticky phlegmy substance coming from her mouth, and we also noticed a puddle of clear liquid on the floor right beside the white stuff, so that may have come up too. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Could it just be allergies?

| I don't know, but that doesn't sound too good if phlegm is coming up. Maybe she has something stuck in her throat like a hair or something and it's irritating her? Her body is producing phlegm to cover the irritant? IDK. Hope she feels better soon.

| I'm in Central Standard Time. It's 8 am here so I just called the vet and I'm taking Layla in at 4 this afternoon. I had to call in sick to work because I didn't even get a minute of sleep all night Poor Layla was coughing like crazy every 10 minutes. She would start to fall asleep and snore a little and then she'd start shaking and have a coughing fit. I looked at some videos before bed last night and now I'm worried it might be kennel cough.

YT 1000 Club Member | Glad your going to the vet. I hope it's nothing serious. Roxie had kennal cough when she was little and very bad case of it. Took a long time to get her over that annoying cough. In the mean time, you could run a really hot shower and let the steam fill the bathroom. Then just sit on the floor with her in there and let her breath in the steam. I had to do this with Roxie. IF it is kennal cough this might help sooth her some. Also, you can take 2 fingers and tap her sides around where her lungs are. Do one side a few time and then the other.

| Thanks everyone! I'm glad I took her too! Last night I gave her a bit of children's cough suppressant and she only coughed a few times all night, so we both slept well This morning she was eating some food again. Tonight I will try the steam!

| My Maddie just finished her 10 day round of antibiotics for an upper resp. infection. It took a couple of days, but her cough eventually got a lot better! I'm sure your baby will make a fast recovery! Good luck...I know it is scary! Maddie is my first dog ever and it freaked me out! |

| It's been 5 days and it has improved but it's definitely not gone! Last night she woke me up while she was gasping for breath and making horrible deep hoarse sounds on each intake... it lasted for at least a minute straight

| I'm in the same situation! I've been up every night for almost 2 weeks. Its got to be kennel cough. I've brought him to the vets and x-rays showed he swallowed pieces of a pacifier. Of course, surgery was needed. He only weighs 2lbs 5oz. I give him 2cc's of Buckley's children's Jack & Jill cough suppressant. That seems to help a lot. |
