Donating YT 11K Club Member | Vet said her Pancreas is low So London went to the vet today because she threw up dark brown liquid today and does not want to eat. They did a blood test and the doc said her pancreas levels are low. She was also dehydrated so they gave her a fluid injection as well as other things she needed. Right now she still doesnt want food but i've been forcing her pedialyte and gave her pepto earlier. She has gas and her tummy is making noises but she is just resting and hasnt thrown up again so far. What does is mean if her pancreas levels are low?

| Gosh - I can't find any information as to what it would mean if her lipase and amylase are low (these are the typical pancreas markers that when elevated can mean pancreatitis). Sending our healing wishes.....

Donating YT 11K Club Member | thank you..i am more worried now cause she vomited really dark brown vomit and i was researching that and read that it could mean something serious like ulcers or a blockage or something. idk what to do..the doc said bring her back in tommorrow if she still refuses to eat.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I am so sorry to hear London is sick. Is she pooping ok? Usually if there is a blockage they can't poop and throw up. When Cali had HGE she threw up very dark stuff. The main thing is to keep her hydrated. Did they give her meds for her tummy? I hope she feels better soon.

| Sorry to hear London is having such a rough time of it. As already mentioned lipase and amalyase are the two main enzyme levels tested for pancreatitis. Another is trypsinogen (although it is usually only tested after a pancreatic problem is known). During the initial stages of pancreatitis, the pancreatic enzymes are elevated. But after chronic pancreatitis has set in, the enzyme levels may appear normal or even low. Long term CP and other pancreatic problems can also cause pancreatic insufficiency where the enzyme levels will be low. I wonder if the vet merely meant they were low for pancreatitis -- meaning that was probably not the diagnosis. All guess work until you get clarification from the doc. Wishign the best for London!

| They would test for a blockage first with an x-ray then with an ultrasound. I just did this with my Trixie today. She has had a high fever for 5 days, not eating. On antibiotics for the infection ( high white count) but we don't know where the infection is. Does your baby have a fever? Trixies has been up to 105. She lost 1/2 pound since monday. Her pancreas count was slightly high but not enough to call it pancreatitis. She threw up yellowish this morning and can't keep the meds down. Now eating prescription dog food. Barely eats that. Kind of eats the baby food a little. I know what your going through. I have been at the vet twice today and the emergency vet for the ultrasound. My poor baby. They are so pityful when they are sick. It is very scary. I thought I lost her the other night. I tried to pick her up to take her out and her little head just swung and she lost control of her bladder. Tongue and gums white as wool. How's your babies gums??

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Like jmdt mentioned the blockage can be detected by an Xray or sometimes they need to do a barium xray. Cali's HGE was diagnosed by a blood test after having bloody diahrea and throwing up blood. Since she isn't eating she may not poop today. Hope she is feeling better soon.

oo right i think he did mention an utlrasound when i asked how to check for HGE...im so sorry about your baby. These little babies get sick so easily and sooo suddenly! It just comes out of nowhere. Earlier today her gums were light pink but i made sure to give her honey and forced her pedialyte and now they look normal. She is just very very sleepy and not doing anything but staying in her little chair or her dog bag which she loves to be in. She seems out of it...right now my bf picked her up and she just lays there, not even squirms at all

Donating YT 30K Club Member | As long as they gave her fluids today she should be ok. You may want to take her in again for more fluids. When Cali had it I took her in each day and they gave her IV fluids.
