Heartworms and flea meds I took Jazz to the vet today and he said that she was very health. He recommended Science Diet food to feed her. He also gave me a hearthworm pill(sentinel) and advantage flea preventative. When I read the package insert for the heartworm pill it says that they must weight 2lbs and she is only 1lbs 5oz. The flea insert said that she needed to be at least 3lbs. What should I do? Should I give it to her even though she does not meet the weight requirements.

Do vets get a kick back from science diet even if you buy it from a pet store and not from the vet office. How does the kick back work exactly? Just curious.

| hmm yeah I would personally wait...plus she shouldnt really be going outside right yet anyway b/c she doesnt have all her shots....right?? Until she starts going outside I wouldnt really worry about the flead meds and heartgaurd. But save that stuff and for sure use it!! I use sentianl as well, and I use k9 advantix I would really reccomned trying to find a different food for her

hmm no they only get a kick back if you buy it from the vet. I am not sure how and what they get, but I did my research on that food and a lot of yt's agree with me on this one, that Science Diet isnt the best out there!! I would go with like Wellness, soild gold, Origen.....On one of the forums there is a thing on food I will find it for you!!

No she is not really going outside. I have taken her out in our fenced backyard a couple of times for a couple of minutes, but for the most part she does not go outside. The breeder sent her home to me on Diamond dog food, but I can only find it in one pet store. Is this a good food? I explained to him that I was going to switch her to wellness and he said it was okay, but in his opinion science diet was better. I just wan the best for her.

Oh ok, I would wait until you have her outside more...give her a month to gain that weight and be a little older. As long as she isnt outside then she should be fine. Hmm I never heard of Diamond dog food, but with food you want to stay away with any that has corn, and by products. ( there are soo many yt's on here that know more about food than me ) I personally think there are better food than Diamond and Science Diet.

i would wait on the meds too... around here the fleas aren't really an issue until july anyway so the vet recommends starting the meds june/july. i agree that science diet is not a good food. toby eats blue buffalo which isn't the greatest, but not the worst either ( i think a 4star on petfoodanalysis.com )

This makes me angry. If I can't trust the vets to be honest about the food then how can I trust them to tell me the truth about her health. I found Wellness just for puppy is this the food everyone is referring to? Thanks for the link. I am about to read up on it.

I have been thru so many. I did research and I asked around and found a really good vet, even if he tried to sell me Science Diet Its not that Science Diet is that bad, its just not good
