| Not eating! We are feeing our 8 month old yorkie EVO chicken. He has eaten it no problem for the past few months. But now he is only eating about 1/4 cup a day when he used to eat 1/2 cup a day. He will eat it if we put it in our hands or if we put it on a plate and SOMETIMES if it is in his bowl, but usually when we get home from work his food is still there. We feed him at 7am and 4:30 pm and lately he hasn't eaten his food from morning by 4:30pm. What could it be???? Is this harmful that he is not eating? |

How big is he? Puppies need lots more calories than adults, they are growing bones, teeth, and skin, and once they reach their adult size they only have to maintain their size so less calories are needed. I weigh Joey every week, just to make sure he's not losing or gaining too much. Also, depending on the amount of exercise you give him, he will want more food at certain time. I have also read, that some dogs don't llike to eat when their masters aren't at home. Maybe you could feed him first thing in the morning, if you aren't already.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Maybe he just sleeps all day, and doesn't get exercise. Do you walk him or play fetch with him when you get home, maybe that would stimulate his appetite. If he will eat it on a plate, I would definitely use a plate, by the way, if it's a stainless steal bowl, some dogs get freaked by them because they can see their reflection. If he's not losing any weight I wouldn't worry, this may just be the amount he needs. Does he seem playful and energetic?

| He is in his cage while we are at work, when we get home we play with him and take him for a walk. ARound 8 or 9 he is out for the count. I just know his brother, who is the same age, eats a cup a day. My friend has him. My guy eats 1/4 cup. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Are they eating the same brand of food? Different brands call for different amounts. Joey eats about 1/4 of a cup a day too, but that's in additon to some green beans, and he's about 5 pounds 9 ounces. Does he eat any snacks? Some people have found that a play pen or xpen works better than a cage all day. It allows the dog more freedom to move around.

| I would say is done growing and requires less food. do yopu have a scale where yhou can monitor his weight? If not you vet would probably weigh him for free. But I would think that as long as he is eating, there is nothing wrong, he is just done growing and perhaps not as active as he was as a puppy. |

Is your friends dog more active? With my bunch, they go is spurts. For a while they will eat everything I put out, which is 3 cups for 5 of them. then they will go for periods of time and only eat about half of what I put out. On rainy days when they can't play outside they won't eat as much either. | |
