| Abby and Daisy's vet visit today I took Abby and Daisy in today because Daisy was past due for her Rabies..I know, bad mama They were going to give her two shots and I requested that they only give one today. The other was Distempter I think? That's right, isn't it? So they complied w/ my request. I'll take her back in 2 weeks. Daisy had gained a pound! I don't know if I believe that or not because she doesn't look like it. Maybe hard to tell though, as she's either 9 or 10 lbs! Mama's big girl She had one anal gland that was full, so that's taken care of now. The really GREAT news is, both of Abby's hernias are GONE!!! I'm so relieved I went ahead and scheduled her for her Spay. It will be Nov. 11. Who's going to volunteer to sit with me that day and hold my hand? Her weight was a shocker too! She looks soooo tiny! Really tiny and the scale read 5.5 lbs! I couldn't believe and neither could the vet tech, so he took her to another scale and weighed her and it read 5.7 When we went out into the waiting area, so I could pay, there was a little yorkie boy there and he and Abby looked about the same size and he weighs 3lbs on the nose. The vet didn't say anything about them being overweight or anything, so I guess I shouldn't worry. Abby is short, but she does seem a little thick. Now for my question. They gave me the price for the spay and said there's an optional pain shot for an additonal fee. We do want that for sure...right? I mean I'm bringing her home that night and I want to make sure she's comfortable. I can't believe they don't include that in the surgery though. Anything else I should know or request before her spay? She's also have 3 baby teeth pulled that day. Sorry this is so long and thanks for those who read through it Tammy

| They should definately send her home on pain meds and yes, it is good to give tehm a shot before leaving. I would take it.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I agree. I'd also ask for pain meds (pills) for at home too...they're going to give those as well, right?

| Yes, they said they will send her home with 2 days worth of pain meds. It's being done on a Tues. (I had a choice of Tues or Thurs.) I chose Tues. in case there were any problems. More open days at the vet's office. I thought we would want the pain shot, but I wanted to ask in case...ya just never know. Also, since Daisy is on the cusp of being over the weight range for the heartworm meds I went ahead and went with the 1-10 lb med for her, instead of the 10-25lb med. Do you think that was the right decision? Isn't it awesome that Abby's hernias healed on thier own!?! I'm so happy about that! Thanks Ladies

Yep, I'd opt for the lesser heart med too if it were me.

The receptionist tried so hard to get me to go with the higher dose. I didn't want to tell her I wanted to discuss it with my YT peeps first It made so much more sense to me that with her either weighing 9 or 10 lbs that she should be on the medicine for that weight range! Geez, why wouldn't they make for 1-5 lbs if it weren't for dogs that were 10 lbs? And to go from 11-25 lbs is a big jump! That's what concerned me about the pain shot for Abby...over medicating. They'll really flip next year when I tell them that I'm not getting Daisy's vaccines. They almost acted like I was overly cautious about not doing both shots today. Thanks again. I feel better about my decision.
