| Dental Care Have you had any dental issues with your Yorkie? How often do you brush your Yorkie's teeth? Any tips or products you recomment? |

| Yes, Ellie has periodontal disease and had to have nine adult teeth pulled. Now her teeth get brushed everyday with CET Vanilla Mint toothpaste and we do OraVet once a week. They also get flossed about twice a week.

| We use the CET dental treats, the vet highly recommends them. I find it hard to fo a really good jub brushing becuase mostly they just want to eat the toothpaste.

| We've been lucky thus far. I had read, before getting Buddy, that this breed looses their teeth at an early age if not taken care of. Buddy will be 5 in Jan 09 and has beautiful teeth. I brush his teeth every day and use original 4paws toothpaste and an infant tooth brush. I also us petzlife 2x weekly to ward off tartar. It paid off because my vet said he never saw such beautiful white teeth on a dog in all his years of practice. He is also a chewer which I am sure helps too. He chews only natural white bones purchased in the pet store. I hope this helps you. |

| When I took Grace for a dental check-up it turned out she needed 3 teeth pulled. The vet said they were "hanging by a string". Her breath doesn't smell as bad now. I can't imagine her losing 9 teeth. Does your dog now eat canned food because of this? Has chewing become a problem? |

| Do they sell Petzlife in most local pet stores or was that given by the vet? This does help. Thank you. I hear they sell a "whisper silent" rotary toothbrush in Petco. I plan on investing in this. Grace is pretty good at letting me brush her teeth. |

| I usually start with her back teeth to avoid the toothpaste eating. Dogs are just so silly sometimes. |

She has no problem chewing (most of the ones that she doesn't have now are in the front) but I feed her homecooked (soft) anyway because I prefer it.

One of our member's sell it. AMD I believe is her name. You can also go the PetzLife Products Inc - Products For a Healthier Pet and read up on it. It has come to the attention of those who use it that an ingrediant called grain alcohol is in it. To me it's minimal risk as opposed to the risks of not using petzlife. I have been using this product for over three years with no problem. To have a dog get gum desease and have teeth pulled putting them under anesthesia is far more risky than using petzlife IMO. It's up to you just wanted you to know about it. Last edited by ARCHIE; 10-24-2008 at 07:01 AM. | |

| How old is she? My Grace-Marie is 5 years old. She's such a ball of energy and so much fun to be around. My mother is elderly and Grace loves to go down to her house to entertain her. Funny how she knows the difference between what I say. When I ask her if she wants to go outside she goes to the front door. When I tell her "let's go see grandma" she runs down the stairs and stands by my mother's door. She's so smart and she knows how to win her treats! |

| I really can't tell because I started using it at the same time that I started brushing BUT her teeth are doing so well that I refuse to stop using it...

| How big is Miss Ellie? Ranger has great teeth but Ryder's look pretty icky- I am going to have them cleaned while he's getting neutered next week, but want to take care of them after that (I just got him). However, he is so freakin' tiny I can't imagine being able to get a brush in his little mouth.. any suggestions for that?
