| Advice on what to feed our new yorkie mix Hello! We have just, 3 weeks ago, adopted a pom/yorkie mix from a local rescue group. Rocco is almost 4 lbs and almost 6 months old. We have him eating Eagle Pack Holistic Toy breed formula, one of the best foods on the market. He is having somewhat loose stools at least once daily, still after the transition period from his old food. Our local pet food supplier said he could be sensitive to one of the 4 protein sources in his food. Is their any one protein source that yorkies should or should not eat? I'm concerned about switching him to any other food not made for toy breeds, he's a tiny eater....he needs all of his nutrition in his three tiny meals a day. He has no hypoglycemia problems and loves to eat his food. We had been mixing a few tiny lumps of soft food into his food but stopped to see if that food was the culprit. Rocco is more yorkie than pom, he seems to have only gotten the fuzzy pom hair. Having a tiny little guy has been great so far, tiring...but great!I will not cook any food for him, we have 5 pets total and an 8 year old daughter....I have enough to do already! If anyone has any suggestions or advice I would greatly appreciate it, our other dogs are easy terrier mixes who are thriving on the Eagle pack Holistic food lines. Thanks!! BTW: Rocco is our big man on the left of my avatar, let me know if you want any info on Susie on the right! The rescue still has her and she is a tiny little sweety!! | Welcome to YT and congrats on your new little furry one! There is a sticky at the top of this section that lists some of the mroe recommended brands of food--at least recommended on YT in any case. Some of the companies will send you free samples or coupons if you contact them. You also may want to check out: Dog Food Review Ratings It links you to sites that examine commerical brands, raw feeding, home cooking and supplements. Remember, just because one person's dog does great on a certain type food, doesn't mean yours will. These little ones all have individual needs and different things they require from their diets. You will just have to try different things until you find a good match for yours. |

| Hey! You guys rock, I am learning so much on here! Rocco is our first yorkie and our first tiny pup. We have 2 terrier mixes who are whopping 12 and 15 pounders. I am so concerned about the problems with Nutro, the rescue had him on Nutro for a few months. He seems healthy, but you never know what's going on in those tiny bodies! We thought Eagle Holistic was one of the best on the market, now we're not so sure. We have 5 animals so we also have to evaluate cost of all foods, all 5 on Eagle Holistic is enough! I will try to upload pics of Rocco, our new PC is not accepting our camera's software.....these came from my cell phone. Rocco is a rescue, so his lineage is unknown. He came from a busted backyard breeder but seems as healthy as he can be. He reminds me of Toto!! Oh, yeah! If anyone wants info on his little friend in the first pic just PM me. She's a great little girl at the same rescue. Thanks for all of the help guys!! |
