| Bentley is in for neutering! I just dropped off my baby at the vet's to have him neutered... I'm worried that he will die there... Cause of collapsed trachea or anesthesia reactions, idk. I'm not freaking out. Just worried. I wasn't this worried with my cat which I dearly love... I guess it's because he's a big-bones, husky kinda cat... Manly I guess. Whereas Bentley is this tiny 3.3 pound baby. Just in 2 weeks he's gained .6 pounds! That's over a half of a pound! I hope he's going to be bigger than 5 pounds full grown. I really hope so. He was about 2 pounds at 12 weeks so according to those charts he'd be 4 pounds fully grown, but he's 4.5 months old and now 3.3 pounds. Maybe he just had a slow beginning? I'm just rambling to keep my mind off of Bentley's surgery.

| Ah....I know I worried terribly when I took my Rudy to the vets to be neutered. I'm sure Bentley will do just fine. Please keep us updated on how he did.

| Thanks for caring, guys. I appreciate your words of encouragement. I called about 2 hours ago and he did just fine during surgery, but apparently he has a yeast infection in one of his ears. Probably caused by me not drying out his ears properly. GRR!

| Porkie had his surgery on Tuesday and it's all I can do to keep him still for more than a minute at a time Your little one will be back to himself in no time Oh, and don't let the cone worry you. I find it bothered us more than him and he adjusted quickly when we didn't make a fuss about it. Right now we let him out of it for awhile each day (only when we can watch him closely) and he doesn't mind putting it back on as a matter of fact I think he welcomes it...go figure

| Atticus had his neutering on Monday. Like you, I was so afraid. Like you, we thought he would be 4.5 pounds. But at 7 months he is only 3.5. Looks like that is about all he will get. Our breeder is as surprised as we are. His mom and dad are between 5 and 6 pounds. Our vet was very careful with how much anesthesia she gave Atticus. He was really groggy the day he got home. Now he is his normal perky self, however, w/ bouts of diarrhea. We are assuming post-op reasons at this point. He came home with an E-collar and was miserable. I felt so sorry for him. I took it off to see what he would do. So far he hasn't messed with the stitches. No luck in keeping him from running around and jumping. But everything seems to be healing okay. I'm new to YT and this is my first post. Hope it brings some comfort. |

He has not licked at the stitches or anything. We can't keep him from jumping up onto our couches but if he get's routy and runs and plays and stuff we will put him in his playpen. So far he's just really sleepy. That could also be caused by the dose of pain meds we gave him when we got home. The bottle says 'may cause drowsiness'... Welcome to YT! I'm sure you will find many many friends here. Yes sometimes yorkie weights aren't always what we guestimate. :P At 9 weeks Bentley only weighed 1.8 pounds... But we soon found out that he apparently had the doggie flu and kennel cough or just flu? idk... He refused to eat, was lethargic and finally started shaking... Well we took him to the emergency vet and they said he was fine, just try to get him to eat... Well when we got home he wouldn't eat. A few hours later he had a siezure, we found out he was hypoglycemic (from my research and help on YT).. We then forcefed him baby food via syringe and he came back to life slowly but surely. YAY! Ok long story short. You'll find a lot of help here on YT not only for your yorkie but the info can also be used for other dogs you may have. Good luck! Brittany

| Thank you. I took his e-collar off because he couldn't walk without bumping into something or it gettin caught on the floor when walking foreward. Now he's starting to lick/preen his incision. GRR. I tried to figure out how to put the collar back on but it just wasn't working. I thought I'd make a gauze diaper for him but I don't know where the gause is. Then I thought of cutting a sock into a diaper but then I'd be out a sock and he couldn't poop with it on. I don't know what to do. Just improvise with a paper e-collar? I've got photo paper for the printer that's sturdy... :sigh:

| Um. Is serious humping a normal side-effect of getting nuetered. He has NEVER humped anything before... His little winkie was out a little bit... He went back and forth between not humping and humping moms neck pillow... I know humping is mostly a dominance thing but he has no reason to be dominant over mom and why would he hump if he wasnt being dominant?? He's neutered!

| Thanks the welcome to YT. Sorry about the collar troubles. Have you found a solution? When Atticus goes to explore his stitches a sharp "no" is all it takes to dissuade him. His diarrhea continues. I'm still believing/hoping that it normal. His eating/drinking are fine. His energy level is definitely fine. If anyone want to chime in, it'd be appreciated. |

| Update on baby Bentley. His incision is healing wonderfully. I think they used glue instead of stitches because I cannot see any stitches at all. Bentley has calmed down on the humping but he sometiems does it a few times about once a day. We haven't had any problems with him licking or messing with the incision. I think he licks it just to clean it. He doesn't obsess about it. So far the whole experience of him getting neutered was great! He is back to normal energy level and probably has even more energy than he did before getting snipped. His appointment is Friday for recheck. He is starting to bolt out the door even when not on leash. Dad routinely goes out to the patio to smoke a cigar and listen to his short wave radio, and apparently Bentley thought it'd be a good time to see if he could run outside offleash. Well dad was freaking out once he saw Bentley outside offleash. He yelled for me to get out there. I couldn't believe it was Bentley that bolted. Normally it would be one of our two cats that would do that. Well I can't run around and catch him, I am justnot athletic enough. So I sat on the grass where he was running back and forth like a bat outta hell... He ran near me a few times and bolted the other way. Well he decided to run right next to me. Luckily I was able to grab him. Just the right timing. Guess I've gotten better at my reflexes due to my big kitty who does the same thing. Haha! I cought him! Yay! I didn't scold him, because he didn't know any better. He was just outside free! I guess now it's time to start teaching him STAY. He sorta gets the jist of it like not to move if we are going to give him a treat... But he doesn't yet understand what it means in regards to staying there when we walk away or closer. Ah the joys of parenthood. Hehehehe
